[.ca] Watering Ghost Garden

much better than i thought it would be...:
about the only new music from creeper that i've heard since i become small blew me away were live mp3s...those tracks, including centapede eyes were good but i prefer more melody and power... i knew the band was in the process of recording their dreamworks cd with all of these producers and was afraid they'd get all too into the production and leave out melody and rawk...they're best qualities... but i bought the ep and it's amazing...track 3 is classic creeper and the others are expansive productions, but capture everything amazing about the band...they really showcase them growing... i saw creeper last week at cmj and their set was filled with new tracks, amazing new tracks...i imagine they're saving the best tracks for the full length...and knowing how much i love this ep, that new album is going to be sick...really amazing music by a truly great new band...and ian rocks of course

bland and boring:
creeper lagoon needs to decide whether they want to be commercial or artsy, it's that simple. right now they sound like a watered down pavement or worse yet, the wallflowers jr. i don't care about the dreamworks money, no one should. radiohead just made an album full of uncompromising songs for capitol and the flaming lips made the best record of 1999 for warner brothers, so let us not speak of money, sell out, or indie vs. major labels anymore. musically, however, this record is just a big wash of nothingness. give us hooks, give us ambience, for god's sake, give us something. the songs are so half baked, it's like they're hoping that if they add some effects to the mix it will actually help the mix. i also know that i'm not the only one who thinks that singer no. 2 should not sing. somebody get that guy a harmonizer or a pitch bender quick. to sum it up, yeah they do sound like the wallflowers, and, um, that's not good.

Nice extension of debut album:
A little more straightforward indie rock, with less drum machine/synth flourish than on I Become Small And Go. Still, it sounds great, very well produced, with lots of atmosphere. Perhaps an indication of where the band is headed on their next full-length. "Centipede Eyes" is as good as anything on the debut CD. Every song on here is good to very good. A must-have for Creeper fans.

GET OVER IT:
Creeper lagoon makes some of the catchiest and most soothing guitar pop since I can remember. I don't know of any band that i would rather listen to when it comes to dream pop. Every song on this EP is excellent and highly reccommended. Yet, despite this, whiny indie brats are finding any way to trash it. Yeah, it's hi-fi. Incredibly Hi-fi for that matter. So, it only makes sense that old Creeper Lagoon fans are a little turned off. Get over the fact that it's a little over produced. And when you do, you will realize that the songs are still catchy and dreamy in their essence, and they haven't really changed their song structures. If Creeper becomes a commercial entity, they will still have my support. It is not like they've changed their style much at all. Only the production. Get over your oversized low-fi only ego's and just listen.

BEAUTY IN THE GLOOM LAGOON:
IF YOUR NOT A CREEPER LAGOON FAN IT'S BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THEM. WATERING GHOST GARDEN IS EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS I BECOME SMALL AND GO. SLAP ON SOME HEADPHONES AND THE MUSIC WILL KEEP YOU IN A DREAM WORLD FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. OR IF YOUR LIKE ME, FOR LIFE. I'M PARTIAL TO TRACK 1. CENTAPEDE EYES. WHICH I FIRST HEARD IN A VERY PRIVATE(ABOUT 40 PEOPLE) CONCERT AT THE WOW HALL IN EUGENE OREGON, ABOUT A YEAR AGO, AND COULDN'T WAIT TO HEAR IT AGAIN. THIS ALBUM IS A BIT DIFFERENT FROM THEIR NICKLE BAG RELEASE, I BECOME SMALL AND GO. THIS TIME THEY DID NOT ENLIST THE HELP ONF THE DUST BROS. AND IT SHOWS. THIS E.P. IS MORE DOWN TO EARTH, AND ON SOME TRACKS, SOUND SLIGHTLY LIKE THE WALLFLOWERS. BUT MORE GLOOMY, OF COURSE. IF YOUR INTO GLOOM ROCK, WATERING GHOST GARDEN WILL MAKE YOU FLOAT AWAY. MY ONLY GRIPE IS THAT THEIR IS ONLY SEVEN SONGS. I GUESS WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MARCH FOR THE NEXT FULL LENGTH ALBUM.
