From Amazon.co.uk: Dr Seuss' children's story always possessed a musical quality. This movie adaptation throws everything into the pot to appeal to most tastes. What's interesting about the approach is having more typically adult-oriented artistes mixing in for the kiddies. Barenaked Ladies get a little Sesame Street wholesomeness going ("Green Christmas" with Jim Carrey), Smash Mouth offer an infectious rhythmically propelled warning about being good for Santa ("Better Do it Right") and The Eels enjoy a scratchy whine about commercialism ("Christmas is Going to the Dogs"). In between are jokey dialogue extracts and an OTT Carrey version of the classic "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch". With so much upbeat fun being had, the dreamy vocals of N Sync ("You Don't Have to be Alone") and Faith Hill ("Where Are You Christmas?") don't really seem to belong. The album's second half is orchestral score from James Horner, seemingly having the most fun since Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Everything comes together best in "Stealing Christmas" as narrator Anthony Hopkins and Carrey interact over highly comedic underscore. --Paul Tonks
great, fun CD...for a WONDERFUL movie: My daughter loves this CD, cause it reminds her of the great movie....I love it cause it's fun....and it reminds me of the great movie!
While It Has Flaws, This CD Is Quite Enjoyable!: James Horner is one of my favorite music composers of all time (With John Williums and Nobuo Uematsu hot on his trail), so picking up this album was a no-brainer right from the start! The score is excellent (What did you expect?), as with most of the songs, but this is where things start to slide! Most of the songs don't bother me as most of them are pretty good (Except for "Grinch 2000"), but can someone please tell me why in the name of... and all that is good did the music producers decide to put DIALOG on this music CD!P>The dialog doesn't belong here, it belongs in the movie! But because it's here not only is it annoying, but it gets glued to some of the score (Which basicaly covers some of the score up)! This is annoying because I didn't buy the MUSIC CD to here Jim Carry crack jokes, I bought this MUSIC CD to listen to MUSIC!!!! Is there anything wrong with that? But other then the the score is great, the songs are decent, and this is a worth CD to own overall! Just be prepared to be annoyed a couple time.
The Grinch: What made me buy this cd was " where are you christmas". I'm not a country music fan but that song is great! It has meaning and it puts you in the christmas mood. And also reminds you what christmas is about.
Not Quite What the Dr. Ordered, But Fairly Close.: I bought this cd to play on the internet radio show I host. The album basically contains some modern-sounding Christmas songs, sprinkled with a few traditional-sounding Christmas tunes, interlaced with movie dialogue and ending with the musical score written by James Horner. This isn't the typical Christmas album and neither is it the usual movie soundtrack. Instead, HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS Soundtrack is something of a strange hybrid of the two. Besides the songs updated from the original televsion special, the only songs I really enjoyed were "Green Christmas" sung by the Barenaked Ladies and "Where Are You Christmas?" sung by Faith Hill. Those two songs along with the score and movie dialogue make this an interesting piece of holiday music to listen. I don't think it's quite what Dr. Suess would have had in mine, but it's fairly close.
Enjoyable, if you like the movie, you will like this CD: I enjoyed the movie dialogue on this CD almost more than some of the songs. The movie was awesome. There is certainly a variety of tunes here...from Smash Mouth to Faith Hill to N'Sync. (My favorite being Hill's "Where are you Christmas"). It is certainly original, and fun, but if you want traditional tunes, this is not for you. Obviously if you are interested in buying this CD because of the movie, than you can't miss; making this CD worthy of 4 stars.
