Foot in Coldwater-Canada at it's Best:
For those who did not have their finger on the pulse of the local (Toronto area) Canadian music scene in the 70's this band is probably obscure, (remember the hit (Make Me Do Anything You Want?} Having said that, if you give this band a listen you will find a group of very talented musicians. Their song writing abilities and talent as players is excellent. I would also recommend their first two releases (A Foot in Coldwater and The Second Foot in Coldwater) as these are probably better examples of these fine musicians at their best.
A Hidden Gem:
One of the truly great rock albums of the seventies, or any other decade, here's a band with talent to burn. This album rewards repeated listening, the songs only improve with age. Lead vocalist Alex Machin possesses one of the finest, most distinctive voices in the genre, lead guitarist Paul Naumann is the master of the understated slow burn. The rhythm section of Bob Horne (keyboards), Hughie Leggat (bass) and Danny Taylor (drums) lock the groove down so tightly you couldn't budge it with an 18 wheeler. The album opens with "I Know What You Need", a mid tempo rock song filled with hooks; check out the bridge for an example of the band's outstanding ensemble work. The album closes with "Para-Dice", a stunning example of A Foot In Coldwater's quiet fire. The songs in between cover a shocking amount of diverse ground, with playing and songwriting displaying an astounding width and depth of creativity.
Overlooked:
I found this album in a little record shop in my old home town and never ever heard of them scanned the sleeve and decided to but it and take it home. There was something telling me this would be good. Once home the wax on the deck the stylus in the groove I was rewarded with crisp power chords and rumbling bass runs I knew this was it. My friend agreed that I had discovered a classic and even today no one seems to have heard of them the UK overlooked another fine rock band. my friends dont even know who Moxy are!!
