From Amazon.co.uk: Although this compilation was delayed by years of contractual disputes, Stiff, Stiffer, Stiffest contains 22 excellent reasons to be cheerful. In 1976, at a total cost of £45, Nick Lowe's "Heart Of The City" launched Stiff Records. The label soon entered into legend and remains one of the most influential record labels ever. Unfortunately, some of their greatest hits--songs by The Damned, Elvis Costello and Madness--are missing from this compilation, but there's still a fine litany of names: Nick Lowe, Tenpole Tudor, Kirsty MacColl, etc. Besides the enduring talents of Lowe, Costello and Dury (all on that awesome first Stiff tour), it was the mavericks who made Stiff so special--Jona Lewie's "Stop The Cavalry"; Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World"; Lene Lovich's "Lucky Number"; and Tenpole Tudor's "Swords Of A Thousand Men" are all collected here. Twenty-five years on, Stiff still delivers pure pop for now people. --Patrick Humphries
