Armand Belleguerre: I've read some reviews claiming the film as boring, humourless and pointless. Hmmm...Maybe some people cannot grasp the more subtle aspects of Anderson's film, or the surrealist undertones snaking their way throughout. For Christ's sake, the fish aren't supposed to be realistic!!! That's part of the film's charm (that and the custom adidas wear!). Do yourself a favour and watch this film. If you don't get it, don't balme Anderson or the movie. Murray, Houston and Defoe are brilliant.
Previous reviews suck: I've seen this movie a number of times now and I don't understand the previous reviews. If you know that it's about and you really pay attention, this is one of the best movies made in the last 20 years. Whoever made this f-ing movie doesn't even know why but it's a real death to life tale told in a manner that feeds off of non-absolute realism. Watch it a few times and you'll make your girlfriend watch it a few times more, even though she keeps falling asleep. It's often difficult to recognize genius. If you don't see it here, I don't f-ing care. It's a fine movie.
Life Aquatic more than OK: I drink more than most, and I live more than few. Or less than both, I can't remember...however, this is a fine movie. Save your comparisons between previous performances and scriptual possibilities...this is a fine movie. It's a tale of death leading into life and it's told well...or well told..f@#k you. If you know what you're looking for and you understand what the deal is...then you know that this is one of the best movies of it's kind.
Flies over your head, instead of smacking you in the face with comedy.: This is a brilliant comedy. The problem is that the comedy is subtle, or relies on you paying attention to previous seemingly mundane scenes. I can definitely see how some people would find this film boring. It's not the typical slapstick comedy that comes out every 4 months. The comedy in this flim relies mostly on portraying the ridiculous character of Steve Zissou and his equally oddball crew. You'll see Bill Murray delivering brilliantly witty lines, as well as a couple of memorable sight gags. You can't really rate the acting in this movie, since all the characters are over the top. Typical comedy of this film...scenes are occasionally interluded with a guitar player strumming out tunes. It might take a few songs before you realize he's playing David Bowie songs in Portugese.
Awsome super cool: This movie is fun and cool. It is also really sweet and sometimes sad. That's all you need to know.
