What happened???: I was very excited to learn that Air Supply had a new album out, and I ordered it immediately...but the only thing that is like the Air Supply I used to love was Graham Russell's voice. I agree with those who say that Russell Hitchcock voice is gone. It seems that his soaring vocals are a thing of the past; He now sounds like Steve Miller with a sinus infection. The reviewer who, based on Hitchcock's clear vocals, said that "The Scene" sounds like it was recorded some years ago and just placed on this album may be on to something. The copyright date on all of the other songs is either 2000 or 2001. The copyright date on "The Scene" is....1998!!! Could it be that it was a leftover from the "Book Of Love" sessions? Anyway, at the price that amazon.com is offering right now, it is worth picking up this album only if you are a completist. Otherwise, you might want to pass on it.
Horrible: What can you say. I am typing this review while looking at the album cover of Vanishing Race, which is one of their best. Somewhere in the last 10 years, they have lost it. I agree with others, the lyrics are horrible, Russell is noticeably absent and I wish I could give this away. After 20+ years, this will be the last one I buy. Except for maybe the Millenium collection. I will just listen to the old stuff and remember what a great band they were.
Hey, lighten up, it's not THAT bad!: What a phenomenal CD! Almost every song on this is desirable. I love it, from the pleasant ballad "Why Don't You Come Over" to the fantastic "Learning To Make Love To You" to the smoky, sultry "Peaches And Cream". The only song I don't like is "Only One Forever", but hey there's always the skip button. "Tell Me Of Spring" and "If You Love Me" are really great songs that I just love. The title track is just great, so amazing! Their soaring harmonies make it stand out. And, of course, "You Are The Reason". What a great song! "Hard To Forget Her" has such a beautiful melody. It is so hard to chose just one song, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be "Body Glove". Oh yeah. I can't say enough good stuff about this CD. I am so satisfied with this album! If you hear it you will NOT be disappointed! And as for that line in "Body Glove" that gets everyone so upset... who cares? If it bothers you that much just skip it. I often find myself saying that to people during the day. You know, "Hey, and remember: The world is just potato chips, joined together at the female hips!"
Give them A BREAK!!!!: I'm sitting here reading some of the reviews , and one review actually started with the word "Horrible". Yours Truly , in my opinion , which you may tell me to shove , is one of their finest works to date. Now I have been an AirHead since the eighties , at the begining. I mean Russell was my idol. I wanted to be him , but lets call a spade a spade , voices deepen and change with age...hello!!! They're not 20 anymore , and I guess it would have been nieve to put on this cd and expect the vocal range of "Making love out of nothing at all" , but I thought Russell's voice shined on "Tell me of Spring" and "If You Love Me". People are actually saying this album isnt as good as Book of Love , and to that I say PLEASE!!!! You cant compare the two. Just listen to Dont throw our love away , or Yours Truly. I will admit , that The Vanishing Race was an exceptional album , but I thought Too sentimental was a bit high and jackson 5 ish....If I am being honest...They have yet to touch their 85 self titled, in my opinion , the best CD they've ever done, but yours truly deffinitely deserves a listen. I gave it four stars because the 5 star prize goes to the 85 self titled
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS CD!: Man was I disapointed when I listened to this drivel! I want my money back! I am so disapointed with Russel's vocal on this waste of plastic I am beside myself! How on earth someone could actually sell this cd to the public is beyond me! I am a very big Air Supply fan but man this will be the last new material cd I buy from them ever! A VERY LET DOWN FAN
