[.ca] Thriller

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the bestselling album of all time, with 45 million worldwide sales powered by seven Top 10 U.S. singles and eight Grammy Awards. The 1982 album was also a success from which the pop superstar never really recovered--subsequent albums seemed to have no other goal than to beat the records set by Thriller. The highly-polished sound of Quincy Jones's production sounds almost organic compared to Jackson's more recent work, and in the same regard, Thriller was significantly slicker than its predecessor, Off the Wall. Both albums established a Jackson style that aimed for the dance floor with songs built on a state-of-the-art bed of percussion and keyboards. Elements of milestone Thriller tracks like "Billie Jean" (arguably Jackson's best-ever performance) and "Beat It" (with its hard-rock solo by guitarist Eddie Van Halen) influenced not just Jackson's records, but those of the entire dance-pop world. On the song "Thriller," Jackson indulged his taste for the juvenile and invited Vincent Price to rap in a really scary voice. With Thriller the album, Jackson created a different kind of monster--a hit album of such magnitude that it would have an irrevocable impact not just on the singer's art, but on his altogether kooky life. --John Milward

what immortal can resist.........?:
thriller, off the wall pt 2.... brilliant funky songs, the title track is my absolute fave MJ (& halloween) song, partly for mr price's end rap & wicked howl........ "billie jean" totally infectious, wicked beat, never really undrstood what it was about, but it was a blowaway song (& video).... "PYT" another excellent tune, & "human nature" just beautiful. the Michael of this time is sorely missed..........

This Album is Really a Thriller!:
Wow...This is an amazing album. I'm not a teen yet, and even I love it! Well: here we go: My background: When I was 11 I was flipping through the channels on TV and I saw a biography on Michael Jackson. I always lived by the Down by the Bay ryhme: "Michael Jackson makes me gag" so I didn't really care. There was nothin on TV that night, so I made sure nobody was downstaris and started to watch it. They showed him performing at the Motown Anniversery in '83. They showed him doing Billie Jean, and I was amazed, I saw him do the moonwalk (my favorite dance move!) and started to enjoy it. Then they showed the Thrilelr video, which I LOVED. I decided to download the music off the net, living off of small 1:30 second clips, until I found the whole Thriller video and I was amazed. One day at Target, I saw the special ediion on sail, and I purchased it, and I was laughed at a lot a school, well, onto the review! 1."Wanna' Be Startin Something" Amazing, great starter, sure there are some weird lyrics (You're a vegetable...) but it sticks out with all the things yelled out such as "Hee-Haw", "De-dum-dum-dum-dum.." and "Mama see mama sa mama sa coo sa!" which they yell for a minute alone. Amazxing A+ (10/10) 2."Baby Be Mine" Ahh...it's okay, I don't hate it, but I don't love it. Don't get me wrong..it's still a great song, trust me, but it's my 2nd least favorite song unfortunately. B+ (8/10) 3."The Girl Is Mine!" Great! Not the best, but it's the BEST love song, unless you count "Billie Jean" as a love song. It's a sow paced duet with Paul McCartney, and it's rather cheesy. Why would two men, about 10 ages apart in age (I think) fight over a girl (heh heh). But it's a truly good song, and the fight at the end was great! A (9.5/10) 4."Thriller" There is definately a reason this is the title track, it's AMAZING! I love it, especially the keyboard in the background's tune. I lvoe the chorus, especially how they sing it in different tones/enthusiasm/mood every time. And did anybody notice how many vocal hiccups are in this song? It's awsome..and the video is to die for. At the end, Vincent Price performs a REALLY (I mean really) scary chant. The voice is scary, yet brilliant.A+ (10/10) I gotta say, you have to watch the video, I watched it the first time when I was 11, and it gave me nightmares (Seariously, I had 50 nightmares of the same thing that night, I dreamed he kept walkig towards me as the zombie, it was so scary) 5."Beat It" If there had to be a different Title of the album, I would say this should be it. It's my second favorite song, pure awsome. Nice 0s rock, with rock god Eddie Van Halen on the guitar. AMAZING AMAZING solo, and yo have to love the video, especiall that shirt he wears (Tuh) A+ (10/10) 6."Bille Jean" 3 Number ones in a row! This song is best known for when Michael did his moonwalk. I like the oo-oos in the background, the third best song by him, in my opinion. Decent video, but I like the outfit he wears when he performs it (especially the nice fenara!) A+ (10/10) 7."Human Nature" I never really cared for this song, but it is an overall great song..my sister really likes it, but it's kust not my taste of music. A- (9.1/10) 8. "P.Y.T." The most Poppish song, it's a great fast paced song. It's underrated, and it's a great song. Trust my word on it. A (9.4/10) 9. "The Lady in My Life" I can't stand this song..I have nothing to say. Definatly the worst song on th album. C+ (7.8/10)

Michael Jackson- the King of Pop!:
I know there are several diffrent versions of "Thriller" but i'll review the original album cause that's the one i own. If you want some extra songs check the remastered version. STORY Thriler was the album that made Michael jackson the king of pop and one of the greatest music artist of our time. Michael had always been a front figure, with the Jackson 5 in the 60's and 70's and had many good solo hits among the way too. "Off the Wall" from 1979 was his first solo album that we count from. It had loads of great disco inspired songs, but Michael didn't find his true self until "Thriller" was released. He's started dancing like never before which we could see on the music videos like "Billie Jean" "Thriller" and "Beat It" and wrote the majority of the songs on thriller aswell. The album felt more personal, then any other material previously released. "Thriller" was the start of pop history. ALBUM "Thriller" is a perfect example of good pop, it's a flawless album that still feels interesting, 20 years after it was released. All of the songs are great and, also quite known Jackson songs that has been both played on radio and covered by others. They are all remarkable in there own way and classic songs that all could have become big sellers. The album starts with Michael Jackson penned "Wanna Be Starting Something" a catchy up tempo song. It's soulish with some disco influents. A great party song you won't stop dancing to. The second single "Baby Be Mine" was written by Rod Temperton it's also disco influented but more of a uptempo-ballad then a dance song. Third song is "The Girl is Mine" featuring Paul McCartney that Michael was a very good friend of back then until Michael bought the rights for all Beatles songs, Michael also appeared on Paul's "Say Say Say". The song is a duet(obviously) where both want to have the same girl. The match is exellent, The take one verse each and then sing together on the hook. It starts slow but becomes faster later on. A quite underrated song. Song number 4 is "Thriller" which also was written by Temperton. It's not only a classic song with a master piece of video when Michael showed the world how he could dance. But also a very good song, one of the best here. Next up is "Beat it" written by Michael aswell, catchy uptempo rock-pop song where Eddie Van Halen playes the guitar too. "Billie Jean" is smoth and soulish, with unforgettable lyrics(written by Jackson). The first song Micheal showed how to dance to, a real classic. Next up is "Human Nature" a beautiful ballad written by Porcaro and Bettis, that later SWV covered. Here Michael also showes how a falsetto sound like. "P.Y.T" is also a disco influented song, quite underrated aswell. Written by James Ingram and Quincy Jones who also produced this masterpiece. The song is very special, give it some time. The last song is "Lady of my life" a beautiful power ballad. It has been sampled later on. It's a great ending of a perfect album. CONCLUSIONS What more can i add. "Thriller" is flawless, not only Michael Jackson's best work but also one of the greatest in pop and rock history. It made Michael a top star, and it launched his career both as a artist and as a songwriter. It has it all, uptempo songs, ballads, good lyrics catchy hooks and beautiful melodies. All songs are good and that's very uncommon that you can say that about a pop album. Even now more then 20 years after it's release it's still a pleasant album to listen to. Flawless.

Greatest ever:
Let me state first that I have never been a big fan of Michael Jackson. And when this album was released in '82, I though that it was extremely overhyped. But I'll say that twenty or so years later, this is the single best album I have ever heard. Every song stands on its own. And the one song, Baby Be Mine, that got the least airplay in the '80s can arguably be considered one of the best two or three songs on the album. the best and worst songs on the album are not that far apart. You can't say that about too many albums. Classic is an understatement. Greatest album ever assembled.

80's To The MAX!!:
I was given this album (yes a record) when I was 12, My Thriller album was mislabeled with Merle Haggard labels by the record company!! This was the best album and I cried when I thought that it wasn't Thriller!! Not a big Michael fan now, but man was I ever way back then!!
