From Amazon.com: An Italian tenor in the tradition of the enormously popular Andrea Bocelli, Alessandro Safina has long been admired and championed in the Netherlands, though he's made light of by his native country. Now, with his American major label debut, a self-titled collection, Safina soars into the popera limelight, his darkly sensual vocals powerful, assured, and flat-out sexy. Melodically affecting in a manner oddly parallel to that of the Eminem/Dido vocal juxtaposition on "Stan," Safina opens with "Only You (Luna)," wherein his masculine posturing is underscored and buffeted by an angelic female vocal refrain until the song fairly bursts like showers of fireworks in an open canvas of sky. Starting with the bar quite high, Safina's pipes nonetheless maintain the emotional posture of the record throughout, positing the singer as dream tenor of the year. --Paige La Grone
honest: I just loved the honest way he approaches the material. He is not perfect and that is what makes his voice so real. There is a real quality and passion in his voice, one that comes from in side the heart. It is also nice to play music that my friends enjoy and to hear them request to look at the liner notes.
This reviewer needs to get a life!!!: People who don't like opera have no taste. They don't realize the time and effort that opera composers like Puccini and Verdi have put into writing their operas. Opera is the most beautiful and sublime music on earth. It takes knowledgeable people with taste to really appreciate it. Also, you cannot compare Alessandro Safina to Pavarotti, Domingo, and Carreras. He is not an OPERATIC tenor. He is a POP tenor. There is a difference. This CD does not contain any operatic music.
Plenty of people love opera!!!: People love opera are people with taste. People who don't love opera...have no taste. This CD does not contain any opera music.
Overproduced: Safina does indeed have a beautiful voice. I would like to hear him actually sing a song or an aria, but on this album all we get is heavily orchestrated production numbers starting with a few simple lines and building to throbbing, bellowing conclusions. Mario Frangoulis brings off this kind of album with more variety and finesse. Hopefully Safina's other discs are more varied and restrainied.
No taste: Hibidee Shibbitz has no taste. Many people like opera. It is much better than the insipid pop, hip-hop, and R & B music available on the market today. He should go back to which ever hell hole (New Jersey) he came from. There are no opera tracks on this CD. Hibidee is very mistaken.
