[.ca] Golden State

Chronique amazon.fr:
--Juliette Legouy

From Amazon.co.uk:
Golden State, Bush's fourth album, is their strongest to date. This record gleams with power and purpose, as well it should. Bush have been slogging their way around the toilets, arenas and stadia of the world for a decade now: they may be orthodox, but they wield a thrilling control over rock's tensions and dynamics. In "Solutions", "Superman", "Fugitive" and "Reasons", Golden State boasts four exemplary alternative rock anthems that any band would be proud to own. There are no weak tracks, no fillers. Gavin Rossdale sounds anguished and driven, and his band is a fantastic, febrile unit. So, did the early, embryonic Bush begin their career copying Nirvana? Who cares? Golden State is a rich, resourceful record from a band near their peak. --Ian Gittins

The Burning Bush Has Been Extinguished:
Bush used to be a respectable band. IT even looked like they would break free of that pretty boy image with Razorblade Suitcase, an amazing album that boasted awesome tracks. Then came The Science of Things, not great, but still listenable. IF there was any doubt that bush is over, this album will erase it. You might think I'm wrong by listening to the first three tracks. They're pretty good. "Solutions" is typical Bush but is comforting and Rossdale sounds great. "Handful of Ghosts" will really have you confused about the album. It's one of the best songs they've ever done with a haunting chorus that is unforgettable. Even the radio friendly "People we Love" is good for some air quitar solos. After that, turn off the album. It's downhill and the album is downright awful. Every track opens with the same quitar loops and songs such as "Superman" and "Fugitive" will make you want to pull your hair out. How can a man with such a gifted voice sing so horribly on these tracks? Even the supossedly beautiful "Inflated" is an awful, redundant torture. If I were Gwen, I'd be pretty pissed if someone wrote that song for me. The rest of the album needs no mention. Simply refer to the comments above. Too bad the first songs of the album didn't influence the rest. If no one has told him yet, Gavin, you might be beautiful and have a great voice, but it's time to throw in the towel.

Let the Gold grow on you.:
I bought the album after hearing "The People That We Love" (originally called "Speed Kills", the title was changed after the 9/11 disaster) and "Headful of Ghosts". I loved the first for its hard rock passion... a grunge anthem, in the year 2001? And as for "Headful of Ghosts"... mellow, a tad depressing, but overall beautiful. A touch of humanity. So... buying the record was the right move to make, right? At first, I wondered if I wasted my money. The tracks were so slow, and they just lacked... something. Something like pizazz... the stuff that "The People That We Love" had. But then I listened again and again... and again and again... and I found that I fell in love with tracks like "Superman", "Hurricane", and my current Golden State favorite "Inflatable". This is a great mix of a mellower style and 90s alternative... and that's not something that's popular at this point, but it makes for awesome art. This is a record that has to be truly listened to by ear... the lyrics are symbolic, figurative, and at other times, cuttingly straightforward. But they're all fantastic just the same. It's modern poetry.

Excellent Album from start to finish!:
I love this Album. It's a real rock record. With only one suB par offering-my engine is with you. Everything else is deep and powerful.

A load of Garbage:
What a horrendous album. I can't believe I wasted my hard-earned dollars on it. I listened to whole thing, and the next day, I felt compelled to toss it out of my window of my car on the way to work. Can someone tell me what happened to this band? They were once one of my favorites, seems like they totally sold out. If you buy this album, and listen to it, you will be sorry.
