From Amazon.com:
Graced with one of 2001's most distinct voices, Adkins begins by sinking his leathery growl into the title number--a rap track, but one possessing enough wit to avoid falling into gimmickry. From there, the curve is upward. The hit "I'm Tryin'," a simple inspirational message wrapped in a complex arrangement, possesses strength and integrity too rarely seen in hit singles. Adkins's real-life blue-collar past imbues "Thankful Man" with a believability missing when such songs wind up in the hands of singers from middle-class college backgrounds. While keeping the otherwise mundane "Scream" and "Once a Fool Ago" above water, he rises above the norm with "I'm Goin' Back." This take on the timeless country-boy-hates-the-big-city scenario succeeds on every level, even if the word "discern" seems a bit out of place. The excruciating anguish of "Help Me Understand" and the self-explanatory "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow" exemplify power ballads done right. The message? One can make a record that reconciles the normally disparate virtues of commerciality and honesty. --Rich Kienzle

Trace Adkins: another cliche?:
The biggest challenge of male country music singers today is BEING UNIQUE. After hearing so many singles and buying so many albums, one singer seems to melt into the next, with nothing to differentiate them. So the question is: does Trace have what it takes to separate himself from the herd? This is not so easy to answer. His barritone voice, like Eddie Montgomery's from Montgomery Gentry, is sexy and unique- he should use it more! Every now and then a low note is hit but besides that, he stays in a normal range. As per the songs, the more I listen to the cd, the better they are. Yes, some songs in the middle of the cd seem to drag and melt into each other, but for the most part, Trace Adkins provides some unique material, such as "I'm Goin' Back"- I've never heard anything like it! So has he separated himself from the pack? He's on the right track, but he definitely has room for improvement.

SHOULD BE RE-TITLED AS: RUST!:
I enjoy good music of any kind, but this "Tracey-good-ol'-boy" cd lacks polish and lustre. Hammy lyrics, and tired, worn out grooves and guitar riffs coupled with basic sound production, equals one boring colection of stiff songs. Adkins needs to run alongside a few of the veteran singer-songwriters out there and brush up on his style. A couple more years on the road will give him more experience.....

Not enough:
I'm a great fan and loved the CD. I just have one complaint. Not enough of the great songs were made into singles and videos. Many didn't hear the best songs from this album. Chrome was not my favorite song on the album. The best song was the last song not the first.......Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow was by far the best and would have been a hit as a video or single.

EXCELLENT! BUY THIS CD!!:
This is the cd that introduced me to the wonder of Trace Adkins. I'd never heard him until i heard the songs "Tryin'" and "Help Me Understand" on the country radio station. That song is a power ballad that just rips my heart out every time i hear it. There is such pure honesty and conviction in his voice when he sings this song. I don't know how anyone can't be moved by this song. "Tryin'" is another amazing power ballad that is an inspirational song about not giving up when life constantly throws obstacles at you. It's also very moving in the way Trace delivers it. The opening track "Chrome" is amazing! He starts the song with a sexy growl and sings about cars and his big black Mack truck. He talks about the truck in a very sexy way, and about a woman who loves trucks and cars. It is very much a novelty song for Trace, as it's probably the closest thing to "country-rap" from Trace that you'll hear, but Trace pulls off the song with confidence and it's a fun song. There is not ONE bad track on the cd. Every single track is amazing and great! The cd is loaded with hit singles, many that didn't get released but should have. What i love most about Trace Adkins is that his voice doesn't sound like any male out there in country at all. He's a one-of-a-kind original with his amazing rich baritone voice. This guy sings pure country from his heart and soul. This cd sold me on Trace Adkins and i bought many of his earlier cds too, and they are all great! This guy was inducted into the country music hall of fame and i'm really happy about that. You can tell from seeing him in interviews and listening to the way he sings that here is NOTHING phoney or fake about Trace Adkins! The guy is a good person and has a good heart, which shines in his music. His honesty and purity of voice makes his songs of love or loss or heartache that much more believeable. Trace, you have a fan for life. Can't wait to get your latest cd. I hear it's even better than Chrome. I find that hard to believe you can top this cd, but if you can, then WOW! Your Chrome cd is total perfection! I'd rate it higher if i could.

Chrome is Heaven!:
Chrome was my first Trace Adkins CD I purchased and I had to run back to the store to get his other CD's. If you love country music, you'll LOVE Chrome. Trace can get ya laughing, crying, and tapping your toes. It's definitely my favorite CD and I'm sure it will soon be yours. Shiny, nice, polished.....CHROME!
