[.ca] What It Is To Burn

this is horrible:
Seriously, this cd is not worth it at all. Whoever says that this cd has emotion is a downright liar. It's void of any feeling whatsoever. I can't believe how people say this band rocks. I honestly tried to like it thinking maybe it would grow on me, but who am I kidding? This cd is terrible. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The Ramones were less repetitive than this, but at least they were fun. This is just mindless, over-produced drivel. It was a serious waste of money and time. Go buy something better, and if you're going to buy from Drive-Thru, buy something by the Movielife. At least they aren't boring.

The Best Alternative Punk CD Out There:
When I first heard of this band Finch, I was a little hesitant to listen to them because my music is very limited and I'm extremely picky in what I like. So I gave these guys a try. It was the best decision I ever made in CD purchasing. Along with their hard, "party-it-up" style comes an emotional addition to the lyrics. I wouldn't classify this CD as Emo simply because the rhythm, the screamo style, and the hardness of these guys are far from mellow, but some, if not all, songs will grab you and you can identify with what they're singing about. New Beginnings - The perfect song to kickoff the CD. A little foreshadowing of what is to come later on. Catchy and an awesome beat. 8/10 Letters To You - The BEST song on the album...but not by much, simply because all the songs are so awesome! Guitar is amazing, but I must also give the drums credit 9/10 Post Script - Definately comparable to Letters To You. Just as good, if not, better than Letters To You because of the variety of the lyrics, unlike the repetitive lyrics in Letters To You. A real catchy tune! 10/10 Grey Matter - Not as fun as the previous 3 songs, but that doesn't mean its awful by any means. A good song with a good ending. 7/10 Perfection Through Silence - A different drum beat with some great variation. One of the better songs on the album. 8/10 Awake - An awesome introduction with some meaningful lyrics within. One of the harder songs, but also one of the more bouncy songs. 8/10 Without You Here - This song stays strong throughout, but kind of drops the quality at the end. If the end were to stay as strong as it started, it would be in the top. 6/10 Stay With Me - Again, the drums have dominated the song. Some real interesting combinations with the lead guitar. One of the better songs as well. 9/10 Project Mayhem - Definately the darkest song of the album, but also the most variation of sounds. Lots of screaming, but a ton of really cool sounds with the guitar, bass, as well as the drums. I'd give it 10/10 for creativity, but since I don't like the repetitive screaming, it'll have to settle for a 5/10. Untitled - One of my favorites on the album. The guitar makes up the song; without it, the song would be pretty weak. The interlude is wicked! 10/10 Three Simple Words - Another dark song. Although the intruments aren't played in mostly minor keys like Project Mayhem, the lyrics are pretty dark. A good beat though. 7/10 Ender - Used to be my personal favorite on the CD because for the first 3 minutes, the drum beat is a guitar beat. So awesome! Also, the most mellow song on the CD. The singing is about 5 minutes, while the rest of the 8 minutes is just weird sounds. Pretty cool though. 8/10 What It Is To Burn - My personal favorite song on the album and in my top 5 favorite songs of all time! An unusual beginning, and real catchy tune throughout. With good harmonizing at the end, this song is perfect for wrapping up the CD. Again, my favorite song on the CD!! 10/10 (If I could give it 30/10, I would!)

Keeps on Burning:
What It Is To Burn has been out for a couple years now, but I never get tired of it... and although I would like for Finch to release a new album I don't know if it will ever be able to be compared to this one. I love Finch and will never get tired of them. This is one album you can listen to every song and love them all. Not only is What It Is to Burn a great album... Finch also puts on a great show... so not only should you pick up this album you should also check them out live if you every get the opportunity.

Hardcore Punk At Its Best!:
Finch is an awsome band, that happens to be more on the alternitive side rather then the punky side. But they still have alot of screaming so their good, oh yea and they're from "Drive Thru Records" so you know they'll be good. The lyrics in the songs are very good and better then you average band who just throw a whole bunch of words together and call it music. The words really are meaningful and have a purpose, and you can tell they thought it out a while. The insturmental part of the songs are very good to, and actually fit the music. Everything about the band is great and there is not one song on the album that isn't worth listening to. The best songs on the CD are the first 5, and then 7 threw 11, and then 13. There are so many good songs on the album that I couldn't write all of them out. I would very much recomend that you look into buying this CD, it's a winner and you will be too if you buy it.

And You Thought The EP Was Good...:
I first heard these guys on the Drive-Thru site, and really liked 'Letters To You'. Interested, I downloaded a few of their tracks. Two years later, and god knows how many thousand spins in my player, this LP still blows the mind. 'What It Is To Burn' does something no other band in this genre does and can do better. From the first track onwards, you will just be fueled with the energy from every song. Stand out tracks are: 2. 'Letters To You' - Everybody heard this, their first single. A very good song with an infectious chorus. 3. 'Post Script' - One of my favorites. I love the whole song, and the guitar in the chorus is killer. 5. 'Perfection Through Silence' - Just like 'Letters To You', both feature on the EP, but now back with just better production. Good song. 9. 'Project Mayhem' - Featuring the amazing Daryl Palumbo from GlassJAw. Five minutes of immense pure mayhem. I love the drum machine part in it, keeping things different. 12. 'Ender' - Originally called 'A Song For You', this song is amazing. It starts off slow, then 3 minutes in, everything explodes. 13. 'What It Is To Burn' (Demo) - I bought my copy the first week it came out so it has the old version of 'What It Is To Burn'. The only difference between the versions on the record now, is this one has a rawer feel. My favorite song on the record. The breakdown is beautiful. It has so much energy. Brilliant. Overall, a very good record showing how good Finch really is musically and lyrically. They seem to put on a very good show as well. I can't wait for the sophomore release. But this record is defiantly money well spent.
