From Amazon.com: Perhaps no female group marketed out of Nashville is as puzzling as Shedaisy, the Mormon siblings who named their trio after an American Indian word for "my sisters." Wrongfully compared to the banjo-and-fiddle-driven Dixie Chicks upon the release of their debut album, The Whole Shebang, in 1999, the Osborns emerge on this follow-up in all their full-blown poppiness, leaving not only the Chicks behind, but also such vaguely country performers as Faith Hill and Martina McBride. Far more beat-heavy and rhythm-based than the album that produced the hit "Little Good-Byes," Knock on the Sky showcases more of their impressively intricate harmony vocals and attitude ("Get Over Yourself"), the latter finding more in common with Britney Spears and her ilk than any Nashville counterparts. It says a lot that Richard Marx shares a writing credit with chief songsmith, Kristyn, on one of the album's most memorable and melodic tunes, "All Over You." But while much of the program gets the blood pumping, the majority of songs have the depth of a birdbath, and often sound constructed, not written, with a reliance on hokey sound effects such as a scanning radio dial and a not-too-credible tent-revival preacher. Granted, Shedaisy court the younger audience, but why should a teenager settle for mere grooves and harmony, no matter how skillfully it's layered? --Alanna Nash
Wonderful attempt: Okay, okay... so this isn't the SHeDAISY that everyone fell in love with after their debut "The Whole SHeBANG." "Knock on the Sky" is one of those CDs that you're either going to love or hate. I loved it. I know plenty of people who hated it. The girls of SHeDAISY took a huge risk, and I applaud them for it. I think that if you don't know the background story behind what was going on in Kristyn's life (the breakup of her marriage) when she wrote the songs on this album, then you might not appreciate it. I viewed this album as more of an artistic expression than an attempt to sell millions of records like they did the first time around. These girls have grown up a lot since "The Whole SHeBANG." Lead singer Kassidy was only 21 or 22 when they recorded the first album, but 25 with the recording of the second. People change in those years, and it showed. Some thought it was a bad change. I thought it was different. I don't think SHeDAISY or Lyric Street Records thought that this CD was going to catapult the girls to superstardom. I think that it was done just to make an artistic impression on people. Let's not pigeonhole them into what we knew them as years ago. They are talented, and have showed wonderful diversity with their sophomore studio album. Heck, I bought 2 copies of the CD, in addition to one that I'd had from their street team, plus I'd had an advance copy. So yes, at one point I had four copies of this masterpiece. Worth every cent.
PRETTY AVERAGE: Strong vocal harmonies, but the music is lacking. I listened to it at my record store and couldn't figure out if they were a country band or just a pop band. I can see them getting better with better songwriting, until then I have to rate this as average. Pretty hot looking though, hey guys??
Knocking on the Floor: I LOVED Shedaisy's first album The Whole Shebang. And I also really enjoy their Christmas albumn. They have beautiful voices and I love the three part harmonies they come up with. I was very excited to get their newest album but I was sure dissapointed. This is a very dark and depressing album. Almost every song is about lost love. Also, all the songs but 1 are slow. Where is the upbeat Shedaisy I fell in love with??? I would suggest passing this one up and instead just listening to The Whole Shebang again. Still, I look forward to what the future may bring from them. These sisters have alot of talent!
Knock on the Wonderful: Had anyone told me two years ago when this album came out how impressive it was, I would have been right in line at my local Best Buy to purchase it. But in the days of technological advancements I'm not ashamed to say I downloaded it. But had I actually bought Knock on the Sky I would have branded it as an excellent purchase. To me, this is one of those albums I can let repeat over and over again. I love each and every song. The thing I think I love most about this album is how strangely ressembles the styles of the Rascal Flatts. Shedaisy may not be twang like most would like, but then again who is these days? To compare them to any other country act out there, especially the Dixie Chicks, I would say listeners would be disappointed. But if you have an open mind and eclectic ear you will surely enjoy this album. I love that each song is tailored for their voices and that they actually had a hand in creating this album. How many country acts out there can you say do that? Not many. Over all I love Knock on the Sky better then I did the Whole SheBang. Their first album had it's winners but this album has several and I had only wished it had gotten more exposure when it first came out. I am only hoping their soon to be released 3rd album has a fighting chance.
*GAG* me with a Daisy: This album sounds like it was rushed. The vocals lack power on this album.. it's almost like "Wilson Phillips". This CD marks themselves as a One-Cd-Wonder (their first album was much MUCH better). I should have bought the Chick's or Faith Hill's new album. I suggest you buy "Knock the Sky" used (there are plenty). I'm putting mine up for sale.
