From Amazon.com: Few things are more sure-fire creepy than huge abandoned buildings, and Session 9 has one of the eeriest buildings you've ever seen. A hazardous-materials-cleanup company has been hired to eliminate asbestos tiles and other toxic material from a gigantic mental hospital that had been shut down in the 1980s. But as one member of the team starts to nose into old files in the office, he uncovers a series of tape recordings of psychiatric sessions--nine of them--related to a notorious sexual abuse case. Soon, toxic materials and dark spirits start to merge. Like The Blair Witch Project (and most horror movies, really), Session 9 is longer on atmosphere and dream logic than story--but the atmosphere is effectively unsettling. A strong cast (including Peter Mullan, David Caruso, and Brendan Sexton III) do an effective job of slowly cracking under stress and evil influences. --Bret Fetzer
Gave me a case of the willies that's into its 3rd year...: I don't actually like horror flicks, and this movie is one of the main reasons why. Not because it sucked, but because it did its job too well (on me at least). It's creepy and smart and suspenseful and creepy and gripping and creepy... I saw this thing purely by accident a few years ago on a sunny summer afternoon and I STILL have nightmares about the ending (the movie's not called Session 9 for nothing). Minimal violence/gore, true, but you know the old adage abut how "less is more"? Brrrr, I've got the heebie-jeebies all over again just thinking about it. To conclude, I may have been permanently traumatized by Session 9, and if that doesn't deserve a 5-star rating I don't know what does.
ZZZZZZ WAKE ME UP: WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITING AND WAITING GET THE POINT?BORING KEEPING YOU WAITING FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN NEVER DOES.
WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!: I was expected to watch a horror & dark mystery movie in a weekend. "Session 9" seems pretty interesting enough for its story, feels so creepy & big swallowing atomsphere & its experimental filming for such an abandoned large enclosure. Take a deep breath to follow the cameras moving along, into the deep long corridors and many more rooms at far lonely end with barely lights in. I admitted it wasn't all that bad at the beginning. Not until those misguided sub plots getting in, purposed to kill time obviously. Otherwise, the audience'd keep counting how much time left. e.g. in the middle of the story those coins, rings, eyeballs & then those dropped old coins again makes me going mad, ideas like counting days from Mon, Tue, Wed isn't a good idea particularly for already a loosen structure. It wouldn't help those audiences already felt asleep. Many more plots like old patient Mary/ her graveyard broken pieces/ her room no./ old photos etc...which mean they are all actually being no big deals at the end??? Truly big disappointment. This isn't a deep pyschological shocking, frightening piece of drama like "The Shining", "Rosemary's Baby" or "The Fog". While it gives you rarely thrilling but only a bit at the end of around 5 minutes, it's getting similar as finish watching "Identity" that also finally rushes to an very uncompromising & unsatisfying ending.
SESSION 9: VERY SCARY AND CREEPY.GOOD STORY LINE AND VERY GOOD ACTING.A REAL CHILLER THATS DEFINITELY WORTH IT. YOULL WATCH IT MORE THAN ONCE. A++++++++++
a very booooring so called horror film: after watching Session 9,i have to say i was disappointed.the movie was very slow moving, boring in fact.the basic premise is this:a cleanup crew is hired to work in a former mental hospital.the catch is,the hospital has a very dark past.it seems that the ghosts of that past have not all left the hospital.now, you would think this would make for a good ghost story, but it doesn't,at least for me.the whole movie is bleak and depressing, mainly dealing with the personal life of one of the main characters, which does have some relevance to the premise, but this remains mostly hidden for over a third of the film.nothing of much consequence happens in the film, until nearly the very end.i fell asleep with about minutes left in the movie.however judging from what i did see, this movie is not worth watching.the acting is OK and the music is suitably eerie for the film, but that's it.2/5,for the acting.by the way,for a similar and superior film try Boo.
