[.ca] Too Old To Rock N Roll Too You

not quite up to par for tull:
This album is not up to par with Jetrho Tulls' previous releases (Aqualung, Thick As A Brick..etc.)"Quizz Kid" is a cool song with great lyrics and jammin'. "Crazed Institution" is a fairly good song but gets old after a couple of listens. "Salamander" is a decent acoustic work by Anderson but just never appealed to me. "Taxi Grab" is a great song with a very catchy riff and melody. "From A Dead Beat To An Old Greaser" is just a filler in my opinion. "Bad Eyed 'N' Loveless" is a forgettable piece of music I always skip over. "Big Dipper" is a great song with the classic Anderson flute standard. The title track is a great song and it alone gives this mediocre album 3 stars. "Pied Piper" is another filler in my opinion. "The Chequered Flag" is my favorite song mainly because it's just beautiful. But out of it all, this album is basically hit-and-miss.

labored:
>get over the teen aged \osic\c idiot attitude people This album is great musically, with the possible exception of the tittle \osic\c track, although some of the lyrics are hit and miss but thats \osic\c o k ,their \osic\c more hit than miss. It's a bit much for someone who can't spell "teen-aged", "title", "that's", and "they're" to be gratuitously calling others "idiots". >If you're still limiting yourselves to the first five tull \osic\c albums then I feel sorry for your tiny little minds. Actually, that's seven albums (1. "This Was", 2. "Stand Up", 3. "Benefit", 4. "Aqualung", 5. "Thick as a Brick", 6. "Living in the Past", and 7. "A Passion Play"), and in the opinion of a mind quite capable of spelling "teen-aged", "title", "that's", and "they're", seven is quite enough. Seven happens to be the number of albums Steely Dan released (before it reformed two decades later) and the number of years the Beatles recorded. Cream released four albums; Police released five. If Ian Anderson really had thirty albums (or however many) worth of things to say, that would be different. Clearly he does not.

inspiration-free:
>Lay off....I simply can't understand why people get on Ian for writing something a little lighter than was usual after yelling at him for confusing them with "A Passion Play". It may your anti-lights are distinct from your confused; there is a range of opinion: it isn't just a matter of thumbs up or thumbs down. For the record, so to speak, I've, myself, never thought "A Passion Play" confusing, although as it turns out, my interpretation of it happens not to jibe with what Ian Anderson says he intended (and I LIKE "A Passion Play"). For that matter, I don't think the problem with THIS record is that it's too "light"; I think, rather, that it's too devoid of content (I do NOT like "Too Old to Rock and Roll, Too Young to Die"). That's ME; I speak only for myself. Putting this aside for now, try to see that no one here is "get\oting\c on" or "yelling at" Ian Anderson. We have been requested by our host to submit our individual assessments of various recordings as honestly as possible. If my assessment, for example, is different from yours, take it in stride; you have no business telling me or anyone else to "lay off". You write your review, and we'll write ours (and as soon as you start reviewing the record and stop reviewing the reviews with which you happen to disagree, I'll stop reviewing YOUR reviews).

get over the teen aged idiot attitude people:
This album is great musically, with the possible exception of the tittle track, although some of the lyrics are hit and miss but thats o k ,their more hit than miss.It seems to me that a lot of people still have it in their heads that a little sentiment and subtlety isn't cool.Grow up.It's far better than warchild or a passion play and at least as good as minstrel. For those of you who think tull didn't record any good music after thick as a brick and aqualung, listen to the bonus tracks on the remastered stormwatch, seven and eight years after those, even the original tracks remastered are exremely more enjoyable to listening than they used to be.If you're still limiting yourselves to the first five tull albums then I feel sorry for your tiny little minds.

Lay off:
I simply can't understand why people get on Ian for writing something a little lighter than was usual after yelling at him for confusing them with "A Passion Play". Just because something is different doesn't mean it's bad.
