[.ca] Stereo Fuse

From Amazon.com:
Few bands would opt to bookend their debut album with slightly different versions of the same cover song. Given the chance to show the world what you've got, why trust someone else's vision? So it can be surmised that the Dallas-based quartet Stereo Fuse feel confident that the rest of their self-titled disc will leave its own thumbprint. For the most part, they're right--Stereo Fuse, the album, is crunchy, no-frills (if not wildly original) rock given great ballast by Colin Hill, a vocalist so intense his spit practically flies from the speakers. The vaguely metallic "Live Like a God" and "Breathe" are strong examples of Stereo Fuse's fierce guitar-bass-drums growl hugging Hill's screech. But as is often the case, greater joys are found in subtler moments. The aforementioned cover of Material Issue's doe-eyed love song "Everything" puts the band on a slow boil while "Allison"--a relatively sunny pop statement--delivers a sucker punch with its dark lyrics condemning a dead junkie. On "Hey You" the band draws power from a "la la la" chorus while the pleading and insistent "Super Hero" is a hit in waiting. A bit of editing would have spared us the unbearably cliché "Heaven Beside You," but that's a small complaint in the scheme of things. --Kim Hughes

Not worth listening to:
I bought this CD because I really liked their growly cover of "Everything," but I was disappointed to find that was the high point of the CD - and it's a cover. There's nothing original, fun, or exciting about their music - it's just blah blah blah rockcakes. Nothing stands out. I didn't even care enough to listen to the CD all the way through - I had to go running back to Matchbox Twenty to save my eardrums.

Not that bad:
Proably my favorite song on this cd has to be "superhero". Its very up beat and the lyrics aren't too bad. Most people seem to like "Everything" but in my opinion superhero is better. Where as its true that they do have cover songs on this cd, I look past that and listen to see if they add to the original song in there own way.

Great Album as a whole!!:
I have listened to this album several times all the way through and I saw them kick off a Creed concert with another awesome band Local H. Some of the reviews above refer to this as Alt. Tunes well let me be the first to tell you that is why you didn't like it HINT go back to Crying your River or Whatever this is Rock and a very good album I must say. I listen to all sorts of music although the biggest song is Everything a cover song. If you like Rock, You'll like this Album its as simple as that. I would recomend this to any Rock fan.

Can you say "One Hit Wonder?":
The ONLY reason i gave this CD ONE star is because NO STARS wasn't an option. Besides their "blah" cover of "Everything" by Material Issue, the rest of it PALES in comparison. The fact that the band HIDES the fact that EVERYTHING is a cover (i've seen several writeups that mention the song being written by the singer before the band got together) only adds to the dead weight of this attempt. These guys better find another talented band's song to cover, and they better do it QUICK!

Are you buying it just for Super Hero?:
As a whole, the album is rather disappointing. OK, but there's nothing really great here. Some of the tracks are better than others, but a few are downright bland and even annoyingly repetative. Even on the first time through I hit the skip track button on a few that got on my nerves. If you're buying it just for Super Hero (or some other single track you want), don't count on wanting the rest of the album. Check out one of the used copies. Probably a better value for your money that way if you have to have it.
