[.ca] Live Phish 13

ok, but not great:
I'm a huge Phish head myself, coming from Vermont, but this album didn't really do it for me. The first and fourth discs are great, with an awesome cover of Frankenstein, and a great Slave to the Traffic Light, but the Beatles covers lack the Phish energy and jams heard on some of the other albums. If you ask me, I would invest in Live Phish Volume 16, in which they cover The Velvet Underground's "Who Loves the Sun" album, and deliver a wicked acapella Freebird cover.

more like 4 and a half:
my first live phish got me hooked on these things. i previewed this because i thought i gotta hear trey do the solo on while my guitar gently weeps. and i was blown away. i immediatley bought this thing. i was dying to hear the beatles cover before listening to the rest of the thing. and i was half amazed. it starts off with the beatles ed sullivan intro, and then kicks into the opening of back in the ussr. and i know i may get blasted for this, but some of the white album covers have more energy than the beatles origianls. back in the ussr, and while my guitar gently weeps being hte best. some on the othe rhand are horrible. by the middle of the 3rd disc, you can kind of tell the bands getting tired. their helter skelter is terrible, and revolution number nine is just about as weird as it used to be. but the best thing about this whole concert is disc 4. they have some great jams in it, and play some of my favortie songs. get this if you're just getting started or get 7, or 9

get for phish originals:
Of the phish live series, this show gets a lot of play in my cd player. But not for the second set. As a matter of fact, i have barely listened to the second set at all. The reason why I enjoy this show is because of the first and third sets(mainly the first for me). The first set is a great, with an amazing divided sky and a gorgeous reba. If anything listen to this show for the reba. You will thank me. Overall, there are others i'd buy before this show, but if you are looking for a few incredible highlights, its worth the money.

ambition:
The white album (minus Goodnight) is well played, but ultimately has mostly rarity value. Who would prefer it over the original? On the other hand, ambition has got to be admired; they pull it of nicely, with some ferocious solos thrown in from Trey. However, Reba, Golgi, Divided sky and Sleeping monkey work very well for me...

IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE, PLEASE READ THIS:
Hi there folks, I usually don't write a lot of reviews on this site, but I felt so strongly about this that I just had to. I've listened to literally hundreds of Phish shows, and besides the novelty of the White Album covers, if there is one thing to buy this entire set for, is the REBA. This version of the song is among the top 3 performances I've EVER heard from Phish, period. The rest of the album is great for Phish fans, but the highlight is definitely Reba, it simply is the best representation out of the entire Live Phish series of what the band is all about. The first few minutes are beautifully orchestrated compositional parts, played unusually tight for the band. But the jam is something that must be heard to be appreciated. If you ever get a chance to listen, this is the most clear cut example of four people playing as one instrument I can ever come up with. Every time I try explaining what I love about Phish to people, this song and this version is what I play for them. One of the best climactic guitar solos you'll hear on the entire series taboot. I didn't give a rating for the album because of my focus on Reba, but this is definitely worth buying for any Phish fan. A disclaimer, my musical tastes extend FAR beyond Phish, so although I am a Phish fan, please be aware that my comments on this subject are as unbiased as they can possibly be. Regardless of whether you're a fan of the band or not, listen to this song and see what you think.
