From Amazon.com: The fortunes of the Dave Matthews Band have been so tied to its legendary live performances that it's arguably led to some well-documented searches for direction in the studio. The success of Everyday was hard won, its originally rejected material eventually revived, reworked, and released a year later as Busted Stuff. But those creative struggles have paid double dividends here, arguably pushing Matthews and company to a compelling new plateau on stage. Recorded in Boulder, Colorado, on July, 11, 2001, fully half of this two and a half-hour show is culled from the results of those stormy sessions, including brooding versions of Busted's then-unreleased "Bartender" and "Digging a Ditch." But it's the wider, more challenging musical palette of Everyday that takes center stage, stretching from the lyrical, cinematic drama of "The Space Between" and "What You Are" to the smoky, blues-jazz tinged "Angel" and loping funk of "When the World Ends." That sense of adventure helps reinvigorate even Matthews staples like "Crash into Me" and "What Would You Say" with new musical dimensions and helps make this collection more than just the band's sixth live album. It sounds like the beginning of a promising new chapter. --Jerry McCulley
The perfect venue for their music: A very nice blend of new and old, with stunning reinterpretations of "Warehouse" and "All Along the Watchtower." DMB is not a band to sit back on its laurels, but to keep marching forward with an impressive discography which will one day place it among the greats of rock music. They are the best thing that has happened to the music industry in the past decade, infusing it with new life and showing that you don't need catchy lyrics to sell out a concert or sell records. Great musicianship is never out of style. DMB really has to be listened to live to fully appreciate the range of their work. Their extended improvisations and heartfelt way of playing reaches back to the glory days of rock music when Zeppelin would stretch out their classic numbers like "Dazed and Confused" into memorable concert pieces. One will never hear "Warehouse" the same way twice. DMB finds new ways to interpret its music, much in the same way Coltrane never rested on "My Favorite Things." Dave Matthews constantly amazes me with the breadth of his musical range, and he has found perfect company in Tinsley, Moore, Beauford and Lessard.
Less Than Great: Kind of a sub-par dmb show but compared to most everything out there it's still pretty good. Plus, you get the only officially released version of "JTR". The bartender is also one of the better ones that I have heard.
Just a thought....: I thoroughly enjoyed this live disc. I would reccomend this CD to anyone thinking they may do a road trip any time soon and are looking for a soundtrack. I first heard this CD, while driving east across the United States. There is nothing that compares to cruising east on Interstate 10, through the plains of west Texas, while listening to "Angel," as the sun peeks up over the horizon. Pure bliss.
EXCELLENT!!!!!: This is a awsome CD. I loved that Dave sang when the world ends. It is such an awsome cd. The CD is Excellent. Later, The Movie and Cd Guy.
Another Great Live Recording in Colorado!: In 1995 Dave Matthews Band rocked a full house at Red Rocks in Morrison Colorado. The great show turned into one of the best Dave CD's, by far the best live recording of theirs. It took 6 years for Dave to return to an outdoor Colorado venue but finally in 2001 DMB played in Boulder, to a sell out crowd at Folsom Field on the University of Colorado campus...topping the Red Rocks concert in ticket sales and playing a flawless set. Luckily for me, I was there for that concert, where rain and an electrical storm threatened to cancel the event. It was amazing, best concert I have ever been to...trust me, the live recording is a MUST HAVE for all Dave fans. His Red Rocks, Central Park and Gorge cd's are just as filling. Get them all!
