Bonanza 4 DVD Pack: Great set but original theme missing !:
Having seen all 4 episodes in this Goodtimes release, I have to say that this is a great DVD set. It's has interesting stories, a crisp, clear picture, and excellent sound quality (it's in Stereo, with Dolby Digital sound). There is one episode per DVD. The episodes are: The Fear Merchants The Spanish Grant The Last Trophy Dark Star All episodes are from the first season (1959-60). You'll find vintage 50's stars such as Gene Evans, Sebastian Cabot, Hazel Court, Patricia Medina, and Susan Harrison,(mother of Darva Conger of the infamous "Who Wants To Marry A Multi-Millionaire?". I only had one little problem with this set (and this is why I gave it 4 stars instead of five): It's missing the original opening theme! I had read a DVD review of this set on another website and was informed that "even the beloved theme sounds great", but instead they give us an orchestral version of "Return To The Ponderosa" (I know this because I bought a Platinum Disc 4 episode DVD of Bonanza which has the same theme and it states on the back that they were "featuring" the music of "Return To The Ponderosa" as a bonus). Not only that, but in one episode "The Last Trophy"it features the theme in scene openers that you know used parts of the original theme. I found this slightly disappoining, especially since they state at the beginning of each episode "This vintage material has been preserved on DVD using the best possible elements". However, if you're not a purist, the missing original theme shouldn't bother you much and you'll still get a lot enjoyment out of this set.
