Zos Kia Cultus is intense: This album is excellent! I hadn't bought anything made by them 'till now and i sure am glad i did... giving it 5 stars for its sweet double kick-drum action, devestating voice, rockin' guitar beats, original songs, and they work well as a death metal group. Understanding the vocals is kind of hard but that's death metal for you lol. I also sing for a death metal group, Criptic Souls (local band), and i think this would go well in your collection along with some other bands like Morbid Angel, Immortal, Old Man's Child, Dimmu Borgir, and Lamb of God. If you plan on getting this, then you have picked an album that you won't be dissapointed with...
Very brutal Death Metal from Poland !!: Let me start off by saying this is a very brutal and down tuned Metal album. Most of this album is at a slower grinding pace, but picks up the speed at the perfect times. I love this group's intensity and Satanica, Thelema 6 and this album are all top notch Dark Metal albums. The vocals are very evil and the lyric's are written very well. What a treat for any Extreme Metal Fan ! Vader who ?
Ouch.: This is the first CD I've ever listened to that I actually felt like it had hit me over the head with a sledgehammer after I was done with it. Holy cow this cd is heavy. I'm not really into death metal too much, because 10000 blast beats a second gets boring to me, especially if every song on the CD is like that....but this CD has enough tempo changes and breakdowns to really get you into it. There is no new breed metal sound here like God Forbid or NWOHM. This is just brutal and satanic, and hateful. God I love it!! The guitar distortion is perfect, and the bass is pummelling with the drums. Make no mistake, if you don't love metal, you won't love this, but if you do like your music HEAVY, this is for you. I'm looking forward to seeing if this band evolves any, because they seem to have very strong songwriting skills. Everyone on the net praises Decapitated as being one of the best death bands, but honestly, I don't think they are all that. They're too technical for me. Behemoth is heavier, still technical, but somehow they have a little more groove (well..satanic groove I guess)....which keeps me into the songs a lot more. It doesn't get any more extreme than this, so it's not for everyone, but yeah....definitely the best death metal band I've heard in a while. Way better than Nile or cryptopsy because of the slower tempo changes.
Inspired Polish Death metal.: For the uninitiated, Behemoth has actually been around since 1990. They started out as a pagan Black metal act similar to Graveland who released albums like 1993's "From the pagan vastlands", 1994's "And the forests dream eternally", 1995's "Sventevith (Storming near the Baltic)", and 1996's "Grom". It wasn't until the release of 1999's "Satanica" that they shed all Black metal influenced and really established themselves as a popular underground Death Metal band. In my opinion, this album represents the best of their newer style. The music on this disc is somewhat influenced by old school Death metal, but it never comes off as being tired and boring. Nergal's vocals are in the cookie monster vein, but he delivers them with confidence and aggression. The riffs he plays are memorable and pretty technical too. However, I feel that drummer Inferno steals the show with his nimble, technically advanced playing. I don't think he's quite on the same level as Richard Christy, Gene Hoglan, or Flo Mournier, but he's still an excellent drummer. His performance sounds smooth and natural. My favorite cuts on this album include "As above, so below" and "No sympathy for fools. Keep up the good work guys! LET THE METAL FLOW!
