[.ca] Tribalistas (Brazil)

From Amazon.com:
With this dreamy collection of soothing lullabies and playful ballads, the supergroup formed by singer/producer Marisa Monte, percussionist Carlinhos Brown, and former Titas member Arnaldo Antunes has proved once and for all that Brazilian music has moved forward beyond the shadows of the seminal tropicalia movement. Favoring a subtle, understated compositional environment, the members of the trio clearly relish each other's company. Their voices come together harmoniously, with a handful of guest musicians adding minimal touches of piano and guitar. From the anthemic declaration of purpose "Carnavalia" to the uplifting charm of the bouncy "Passe Em Casa" and the peaceful aura that permeate the Christmas song "Mary Cristo," the moods here offer an antidote to the unapologetic aggressiveness of most contemporary music. "Tribalistas" is more than just the best Brazilian album of the year. It is also an instant classic, a musical message of hope and a joy to listen to from beginning to end. --Ernesto Lechner

Has Everything- Lyrics, Songs, Sounds - Check this out !!!:
i dont know Porto/Brazilian music from diddly, heck i barely speak english and its my first language! But this album.. its beyond amazing. check the lyrics from Ja Sei Namorar (and i remind you this was the pop single, but the lyrics are anything but). "Now I know to love (court) Now I know to tongue kiss Now I'm only left to dream I now know how to go I now know how to stay firm Now I only have to part Don't have patience for television I'm not audience for solitude I belong to no one I belong to the world and the world loves me too I belong to no one I belong to the world and the world is you too" (...) and thats in the first minute... if you dont own this album, you are missing out!!

inventive, creative, festive, soulful, playful:
these artists play well together as attested to in the dvd of their process. the music here is playful, inventive nouveau tropicalia for the 21st century. lets hope they do this at least once more. you wont be dissapointed.

Natural and Beautiful:
I listen to it and find myself discovering little things going on...It's Fresh, Relaxing and Beautiful!!! Wonderful compositions...and it sounds so Natural!!! U just Buy the album and put a smile in Ur face... ;)

INCREDIBLE!:
As a connisseur of Brazilian music, I set my standards very high. Simply put, this album is a landmark achievement, lyrically and rhythmically. Marisa Monte, already recognized for her solo work, justifiably cleaned up at the Latin Grammys with this album. So infectious was the track "Ja Sei Namorar" that I heard the song played on public radio in California- the first time I've ever heard a Portuguese song played on public radio in my two decades as a Californian. I recommend the track "Passe em Casa", though the entire disc is a soothing journey through some modern sounds of Brazilian pop-fusion.

I was waiting more of them...:
Together, Marisa Monte, Carlinhos Brown and Arnaldo Antunes, three of the best artists of the MPB. One Album, 13 songs. When I finished listening all the songs, I was deceptionated. 13 songs, and, apart from "Ja Sei Namorar" and "Velha Infancia", no other really atracted me. Ok, "Passe em Casa", "E Voce" and "Carnavalia" were other good music, but the other songs appeared to me that they made quickly only to fill the rest of the CD. Tribalistas is a good CD, but I am still thinking that hear the old songs of Marisa Monte is better. However, take it if you really like Brazilian music or like any of the three musicians, you won't be deceptionated, even because "Ja Sei Namorar" and "Velha Infancia" are excellent songs and does not let the CD to be a complete waste of time.
