[.ca] O Mickey Where Art Thou? Voic

From Amazon.com:
It's not what you're thinking: No Mickey squeaking out Ralph Stanley songs, no picking and grinning Goofy, no banjo-wielding Pluto woofing mountain music. Instead, O Mickey assembles a first-rate cast of country players for a down-home roundup of Disney covers, from Collin Raye's "Circle of Life" to Ronnie Milsap's "When You Wish Upon a Star" to Stonewall Jackson's warm "The Bare Necessities." It works, based not only on performances by the better-known artists (Charlie Louvin included), but also a couple of bona fide instrumental boot-stompers--"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" gets the dueling fiddles treatment, and "The Mickey Mouse Club March" medley lock-steps it to mandolin and Dobro. Directing bluebirds squarely to shoulders is Elizabeth Cook's breezy "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," but if there's a shortcoming here it's the blurring of country and bluegrass, a muddling of styles apt to get any self-respecting Soggy Bottom Boy's britches in a twist. --Tammy La Gorce

happiest music on earth:
Elizabeth Cook's version of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" alone is worth the price of this CD. And then there are eleven icing-on-the-cake foot-tapping tunes! Collin Raye's "Circle of Life" is the very best version of this song, of which all versions are great, because it's the one that makes you want to dance. There are also moving ballads, like "Baby Mine" and "When She Loved Me." No one can listen to "The Bare Necessities" or "When I See an Elephant Fly" and not smile. Anyone who enjoys cheerful, happy-go-lucky music will adore this CD.

You will love it:
My wife saw the title and said, "I don't want to hear it, since all the songs will sound like the music heard while standing in line at Disney World!" Well now she loves it, and so do I. Quite of good job of arranging and producing a very good album. It'll be a great addition to the library of both bluegrass fans as well as Disney lovers.

I love it!:
I first heard of this album last week while listening to Sunday Night Grass on a local Bluegrass station. I was ready to change the channel (thinking that it was going to be horrible) when they began to play "Baby Mine". I was instantly hooked! I cannot believe how good this album is! What a wonderful idea--Disney music turning Bluegrass! I highly recommend it.

Oh, give me a break!:
Bluegrass??? Collin Raye and Ronnie Milsap? Stonewall Jackson and Charlie Louvin? Sonya Isaacs? Robbie Fulks?? Uh, I don't think so. Well, aside from the cheesy opportunism of Disney trying to latch onto the "O Brother Where Art Thou" bandwagon, I guess this is an okay album. A lot of the more modern, crappy soundtrack themes ("You'll Be In My Heart," "Circle Of Life," etc.) are included, and an near-equal amount of oldies ("Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah," et al) and while there are a couple of instrumentals (giving slight plausibility to the "bluegrass" claim), for the most part this is a fairly twangless album. I was happy to see the squeeky-voiced hillbilly filly Elizabeth Cook on here, even though her track doesnï¿1/2t highlight her strengths that well. Mostly this is pretty iffy. One thing this most definitely is not: a bluegrass record. For that, try some old Stanley Brothers, or something new by Del McCoury or James King.

Oh Mickey , you're so fine:
A wonderful feelgood album . The best track on it without a doubt is You'll be in my heart by Kevin Montgomery . Go to see him in concert and ask him to play it for you . Tell him Andy sent you !!
