[.ca] Me Died Blue

From Amazon.com:
"Why should the devil get all the good music?" used to be the refrain heard in Christian music circles, a sentiment roundly answered by a contemporary explosion of successful gospel-oriented pop that's embraced everything from folk to metal and hip-hop. This debut solo release from the frontman of the idiosyncratic, folk-rooted contemporary gospel group Cashmere to Burlap covers an impressive musical range, from simmering semi-confessionals to the social critique of "Daisies and Sandalwood" and the playful romp "Rocky Boat," all of them wrapped in the evocative textures of producer Monroe Jones (this is the debut release of Jones' own Eb+Flo label). But while the Christian message is central to the album's concerns, Delopoulos's ambitious songs and performances inherently begs comparison to NYC songwriters like Paul Simon, Harry Chapin, and even Bob Dylan--though his gifts for lyrical allegory are occasionally mired in the latter's Slow Train Coming/Saved sense of the demi-pedantic. Still, there's an urgency and often Gordon Lightfoot-esque warmth that won't be denied here, underscored by the musician's forceful acoustic guitar textures and impressive range of composition. --Jerry McCulley

My favorite CD in my collection!:
This is one of the best releases of 2003. 'Me Died Blue' is absolutely beautiful music!

Makes me want to write again! Touches my soul.:
I had the great pleasure of hearing Steven for the first time last week at the Cadman's Call/Jars of Clay concert in Urbana, IL. I was absolutely floored by the talent and the way his music flowed through your soul. You could feel what he felt and the passion he has in his writing. I had to take home the Me Died Blue/Live at the Bluebird Cafe combo pack. Jungle Trail has got to be one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Eileen's Song (on the live cd) touches something deep within my heart and makes me want to write my poetry again. You must have this cd. You will never be the same again after hearing such beautiful, passionate music. It will truly touch you heart and soul.

Incredible...:
Quite possibly my CD of the year. Incredible musicianship (particularly his often blinding and always beautiful finger-picking guitar), wonderful variety of songs, and deep powerful lyrics. Crisp production, crystal clarity of voice, and simultaneously catchy and innovative songs make this masterful album a MUST have!

Get the Album and See Him Live:
I just saw Steven perform live as the opening act for Jars of Clay. He was a great showman, very entertaining, a darn good guitarist, and a great voice. If you like listening to a voice that's a cross between Springsteen, Cat Stevens, and David Gray then you're going to like Steven Delopoulos. The album certainly didn't disappoint after getting spoiled with a great live show.

Addictive! Best CD of 2003!:
I can't believe this awesome CD! Every tune is a story unto itself, and well written. Great lyrics and mesmerizing music! One can tell Steven Delopoulos really did his homework in being inspired by some of the greatest singer/songwriters in music history!
