DKM OUTDOES THEMSELVES: I love this CD. Period. 1. Walk Away ~ 9/10 ~ great opening song, upbeat, awesome lyrics 2. Worker's Song ~ 9/10 ~ good mesage behind this song, fun to sing to 3. The Outcast ~ 7/10 ~ this one doesn't stand out very much, kinda mediocre 4. Black Velvet Band ~ 9/10 ~ good remake, but you can't match an original 5. Gonna be a Blackout Tonight ~ 8/10 ~ there's a lot of energy in this song, good instrumentals 6. World Full of Hate ~ 10/10 ~ I really like this song, its not the normal dkm approach, but they still pull it off 7. Buried Alive ~ 10/10 ~ great song, i never get sick of it 8. The Dirty Glass ~ 11/10 ~ This is definitely my favorite on the cd, its hilarious, great to sing along to 9. Fields of Athenry ~ 10/10 ~ an instant dkm classic, i love the irish history in it 10. Bastards on Parade ~ 9/10 ~ great lyrics in this song, but it gets repetitive 11. As One ~ 10/10 ~ Great pipes in this one 12. This is Your Life ~ 8/10 ~ kinda sounds like others on the cd, but still a good tune with great lyrics 13. Time to Go ~ 10.5/10 ~ My second favorite on the cd, you can't go wrong with the bruins 14. Kiss me, I'm %@$#Faced ~ 10/10 ~ so so funny, great end to a great cd DKM delivers in a way only they can pull off...if you ever get a chance to see them perform live, i highly reccomend it, they are insanely awesome...peace
What the f@#k happened!: One of my favorite bands has left me with a bad taste in my mouth after hearing Blackout. While there are a few good tracks on here most don't come even close to their previous stuff. The version of "Dirty Glass" sucks my ass. The original on the split they did with Face To Face had a different singer on the female vocals and she was vastly superior. The biggest problem with this album are the vocals. What the hell happened to the amazing vocals of Al Barr (Bruisers forever), he seems to have disappeared on this album. Ken Kelly should stick to playing bass. He's okay singing a line or verse here or there but his vocals are far too prominent on this album. I know he's the only original member left but that doesn't mean he should make himself the focal point of the whole album. If I was Al Barr I'd be pissed!
Good CD: i bought this cd, i wasn't surprised at what i heard. it's punk, not too hard, but still punk. some of the songs sound like an attempt to be flogging molly, or even the pogues. take one listen to "dirty glass" and then find "fairytale of new york" by the pogues, you'll see what i mean. anyway, good cd, better than their split with the business, but i can't comment on their other albums since i don't own them. so yeah, buy it.
Best kept secret in rock....: Back when I used to move around in the Tom Robbins newsgroup I mentioned this new group I was listening to called Flogging Molly. Someone dropped me a line suggesting I listen to the Dropkick Murphys also. Thank you! What a superb, energetic (...)album this is. I play it more than any CD I own and have ever since I bought it. What shocked me is the negative reviews they have received here from old fans. That just means I have to pick up some of their older stuff. The bar must be high for this band... I put this group in the same class as Rancid as a hard-driving guitar-driven punk-derived band that never lets up and writes incredibly well-done songs. The lyrics are funny and literate and political and the complexity of the music puts them in a category all their own. The only complaint I have is the Internet music databases couldn't find them and when I play them in Itunes it doesn't recognize them. What a shame. This is simply an incredible album from top to bottom. Anyone interested in quality punk, loud frenetic guitar work interwoven with Irish-influenced pub music, you must have a look at the Murphys.
Another great CD by the Murphys!!: Another great CD by the Dropkick Murphys. Go buy it, and then see them live!!
