[.ca] Brazil After Dark

Nice:
This album is a perfect mix of trip hop and dance music, with all the elements of the relaxed Brazilian lifestyle. If you don't have beautiful female vocals then you have the tropical sounds of the amazon, and much more. It will mellow you out and make you feel good. Give it a listen.

Latin House:
Summer 2003, I picked this up the same time I picked up Cafe Samba. Both came after Brazilectro 5. Little did I know that these two cd's (Cafe Samba and Rio After Dark) would be fantastic companion pieces. While Cafe Samba has a bit of a slower vibe, Rio After Dark kicks in with some pretty good Latin House and a splash of bossa. But don't be fooled by the title here - this isn't all Brazilian music... The CD really gets heated up from Luz Marian's cut on forward. It has a sort of deep house feel to it. Some of the famous artists that contributed are Bebel Gilberto, Suba, Banda Favela, Edson X and Macumbalada. What's pretty cool is that the mixes here are really in full, so if you want to make your own mix of tunes then this is a great platform! And there really are some good and interesting cuts on here that'll get you pumped up for a night out on the town. Here's the track listing: Zuell - Primer Contacto DJ Pippi - Feel It Luz Marian - En La Luna Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Tempo (Kruder Remix) Macumbalada - Samba Do Morro Ana Mazzotti - Eu Sou Mais Eu Andre Andreo - The Meaning of Freedom Bah Samba - Reach Inside Suba - Tantos Desejos (Nicola Conte Mix) Deeper & Pacific - Sonho Da Garoa Martin East - Caylin (Supergrandbaile mix) Luz Marian - Una Vibracion Banda Favela - Samba De Ile (WaiWan mix) Edson X - Tijuca I definitely recommend this. If you're a fan of some of the Naked Music compilations or Miguel Migs "Nude Tempo", this might be up your alley (this CD is on Water Music btw). However it isn't totally without fault - I didn't really "Feel it" for DJ Pippi's song, and the remix to Suba's "Tantos Desejos" is not my favorite Conte mix. Also, I LOVE Ana Mazzotti's music and this cut in particular but that cool lounge 70's sound in "Eu Sou Mais Eu" just doesn't seem to fit in with the vibe of the cd. But... the Suba and Mazzotti cuts are still fantastic (especially Ana Mazzotti's), and this cd is still quality and worth checkin' out. If you like this, you may like the Nova Latino series and Monte La Rue's "Latin Deluxe: Dia Em Noite".

Latin House:
Picked this one up in the summer... actually picked it up the same day as Cafe Samba. And boy, the two cd's could be companion pieces. While Cafe Samba's has a more mellow vibe, this one is upbeat and pumps some latin beats! Don't be fooled by the title - although it says "Brazil After Dark", not all of these tunes are Brazilian. The CD starts out with a sort of dance club anthem, then picks up with some good latin vibes, capping off with Luz Marian's Spanish "En La Luna" and followed up with a mix to Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo". Macumbalada's track "Samba Do Morro" follows, and anyone in the latin night scene's heard this one before - it has a sexy sort of vibe to it. It's also been on many compilations now. Other known artists include Suba, Edson X and the full version of Waiwan's remix to Banda Favela's "Samba De Ile". Here is the track selection: Zuell: Primer Contacto DJ Pippi: Feel It Luz Marian: En La Luna Bebel Gilberto: Tanto Tempo (Kruder Remix) Macumbalada: Samba Do Morro Ana Mazzotti: Eu Sou Mais Eu Andre Andreo: The Meaning of Freedom Bah Samba: Reach INside Suba: Tantos Desejos (Nicola Conte remix) Deeper & Pacific: SOnho Da Garoa Martin East: Caylin (Supergrandbaile edit) Luz Marian: Una Vibracion Banda Favela: Samba De Ile (WaiWan mix) Edson X: Tijuca I'd definitely recommend this CD. Although it's easy to overlap the cuts if you collect nu-brazil compilations, it's got some good latin house tunes. Also, the songs are un-mixed, and are stand-alone. So mix away! Only downside, and it isn't really one, but I just don't get how the Ana Mazzotti track fits into the middle. IMO, it is the best on the cd - a timeless track - but it's such a throwback to that 70's Brazil feel compared to the rest of the album. And the Conte remix didn't fit the mood to me. But that's hardly enough to steer anyone away from this. Pick it up! ANd if you like it, check out Brazilectro vol 5, Nova Latino vol II and III, Latinique or maybe Latin Deluxe: Dia Em Noite.
