variety packed into 2 cd's: i was a little reluctant to buy the cd, considering i had been a bit disappointed with the first beach house album. i bought the 4.02 album and i have to say i was pretty amazed with that one.. so i thought perhaps 4.03 would be a step forward in the right direction. luckily, this cd was definitley so! the first cd is definitley more mellowed out, probably stuff you'd listen to while you relax... but the second cd packs more of a punch with the beat. very melodic and groovy with many good selections! lots of piano, saxophones, and guitar.. i especially enjoy julius papp's, "your life." the one thing i have noticed with most of my hed kandi purchases is that although not all the songs on the compilations are "wow!," they always manage to put several tracks that are absolutely amazing, making the whole purchase worth it.
absolutely intoxicating: iv just recently acquired a copy. im not even done absorbing the whole disc1, thats because im outright infatuated with disc2. late night alumni's empty streets, beautiful and bittersweet. glider's riding high, picks you up and soars to the roof of your mouth. volta's never been kissed, oozing with suuugaaaar! papp's your life, releases those endorphins! this album is not fine exotic chocolate. its the local brand (and spiked with liquor) that youll always love coz it reminds you of youthful emotion.
You can't avoid to love it: I heard Hen Kandi music for the 1st time in a trendy disco of southern spain, and it was love at first sight. Went on Amazon and bought this CD mainly for a song, "The whirled you live" that along is worth the price. But the compilation is AWESOME. Great extended mixes, ideal if you want to play with them, great sound, wonderful tracks like "kiss kiss kiss". A MUST! Thanks to the others for rewiewing it as good as I discovered!
Gooey vocals on the first misstep of this excellent series: The Beach House series has long been the most popular and successful of Hed Kandi's numerous full-length, unmixed 12"singles collections. The formula remains the same: two dozen tunes over two discs, in equal parts dazzling hits, filler pieces and duds for you to cherry pick. Beach House 4.03 is their first misstep, lacking memorable tunes that spark a rewind. The summer vibes and light percussive sounds still appear, but a far heavier emphasis on sugary (to the point of gooey-excessive) lyrics clog the stereo. Worst offenders? Ananda Project's "Kiss Kiss Kiss," with that as the chorus and Q-Burns companion piece "This Time." Not to be outdone, there's frilly vocoder itinerary "Getaway,' and an auto pilot Miguel Migs with "Moving On." Lost in the shuffle, guitar dub "Floating" from DJ Aguy and soft disco number "Follow the Night" via Kaskade manage some respite. On disc two, Etherfox's hard piano stabs and "be-bah-ahp-a-tha" chorus will have you humming for days on "The Whirled You Live." But that's not much to offer for listeners. Hed Kandi knows how to pick tunes with sun-spotted charm, but in this case an ear for instrumentals would have served better.
AMAZING-- HED KANDI DELIVERS AGAIN!: I've listened to all the Beach House comps with the exception of the second one, and this is the BEST!
