Yes. It's Good.: I think it's hilarious that amazon.com has idiotically paired this album with "Blues Clues Boogie". What are they thinking? This is an amazing album from an amazing guy. Highlights are "Troposphere" "Mighty Little Man" and "Maintain" Honestly though, there are a few too many tracks. Not every track is a gem. This could have been an amazing ep had Steve been a bit more selective.
Surprisingly Excellent: I admit I first checked out this album out of curiosity, being that my 2 kids love Blue's Clues. Heck, I even love Blue's Clues - I always appreciated the way Steve's character approached that show wothout any sarcasm or tounge-in-cheekiness. But this is a flat-out GREAT album. Check out all the layers, sounds, moods and feelings that spring out from these songs. The Flaming Lips influence is definitely there, but that's a good thing. Nice work, Steve. We should all be stoked that Joe took over the Clue solving responsibilities so Steve can keep putting out albums like this.
Solid debut: Prior fame: help or hindrance? In this case, it can be both, I suppose. While it does gain him name recognition and a built in potential fan base of the adoring mom's of the little tykes, the nature of Steve's fame could definitely cramp his rocker style. The good thing is that Steve seems to have a sense of humor about it all. I guess the fact that I felt the need to write that first paragraph shows the problem of the "fame" aspect. Anyway, the album itself is VERY good. Surprisingly good. The Flaming Lips influence is all over the place, but you can sense that this is Steve's album, especially in the overall sensibility. I highly recommend this album for any who like alternative rock. Let's put it this way, my three favorite albums from 2003: the newest releases from Coldplay and Matchbox 20 and this one. Lastly, whose incredibly idiotic idea was it to use a Blue's Clues album as a "Best bought with . . ."! Sometimes bot computers should not be let run the site. I will blame it on the lobsters.
Just can't put it down!: I remember coming across Steve's website and finding out that he had this album out. I downloaded the songs out of curiosity, and was really surprised when the songs were GOOD! I mean, REALLY good! I went to every store I knew of until I finally found a copy at Circuit City. I love the fact that the album has alot to do with science (Mighty Little Man, Superstrings, Troposphere, Songs for Dustmites, etc.) Mighty Little Man is the first track and it's about an inventor who just invented one of the greatest things ever, or so similiar to how Steve described it. Also about inner-strength. It's extremely catchy, and anyone who DOESN'T love this song needs to get their ears checked. If you're not exactly caught up with your nano-technology, or got straight D's in science class, then the concept of this CD will more than likely fly right over your head, but you'll enjoy the sounds anyway. Buy this album and I promise you it will never leave your CD player!!
A collection of mesmerizing melodies: I don't have kids, I've never seen Blue's Clues (I'd heard of it but when you're in a childless house children's shows don't have any appeal) so when I first heard this album via the fantastic interactive website I was drawn in enough to buy the album. I wasn't the slightest bit disappointed. What I found was a warm collection of mesmerizing melodies that would roll around in my head for days. Six months later and it's still in the CD player. Bare in mind, this is very much a first album and there are the odd, fleeting moments, where you wonder - huh? But how many times has someone gone on to produce fantastic music and you've wished you were there when it all began. This album is that perfect begining. If i'm only giving it four stars it's because I know there's better to come.
