"I've Always Been Crazy" Tribute To Waylon: Either 1 of these so-called Tributes would have Waylon rollin' over in his Grave. Just from what I have heard on these CD's are terrible. That is only my thoughts on them though. Thank You, Ken
Waylon would not like this CD: Obviously some of the would-be record guru's got together and decided who should record what on this album. I'm sure as anti-Nashville establishment as Waylon was, he would not approve. Most of the so-called artists on this album couldn't carry Waylon's picks let alone his guitar case. Brooks & Dunn singing Waylon, give me a break. They don't belong here. Save your money on this disc and buy they other one "Lonesome, Onry and Mean". Much better bang for your buck and the price of CD's these days, that's important.
This is horrible at best: You have got to be kidding me. Waylon is all about Texas country. The only people that are singing on this album is a bunch of Nashvile high-rollers. Mellencamp singing Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way? is pathetic.Where's Cory Morrow and Pat Greens version of the song? It is by far the best remake of the song. If you would like to hear a good version of the sound get Full Exposure by Cory Morrow. My second reason this is a terrible remake of a song is Kenny Chesney's remake of Luckenback Texas. That song is one of the greatest texas country songs of all times. Why on earth is he singing it? No one but Willie should beable to sing that song. All Kenny did was butcher a true great song. He just needs that keep singing about how his tractor's sexy! This is a overall horrible album that I wouldn't even waste my computer's memory on moreless spend \omoney\c for!
Fabulous Tribute: That pretty much sums it up! It is wonderful. Stargunn is awesome. I'd never heard of them before this tribute album to Waylon, but they are terrific. Alison Krauss (You Asked Me To) is incredible, as always. Dwight Yoakam (Stop the World) has a lot of heart - just as Lukenback, Texas (Kenny Chesney and Kid Rock)! A must have for your Waylon Collection! (The Dream by Waylon is beautiful)! Must Check this Album Out!!!
A colossal disappointment: When word circulated that this project was in the works, I anticipated something great. Instead, is is spiked with many throat-gagging moments. The biggest sin: The songs are not Waylonized. Joe Galante should have hired Short Stroke, Jigger and Scruggs to produce the sessions to get the sound right, start to finish. Instead: Where is the kick drum? The deep, rounded bass lines? The phased Telecaster trading licks with steel? The layers of double-timed rhythms in straight 8s or cut time? The elegant waltzes? The chicken pickin' and string bending? And hey, where is a melody wrapped naturally around the fills, and webbed with the rhythms? The piano undercurrents? Except in precious few cases, it just doesn't happen. Many of the "stars" fall into the Watch-Me-Sing Syndrome, fracturing the Waylonized feel. The guitars, for instance, sound like fuzzed Stratocasters, something Waylon never used on his self-produced work. Except for some precious contributions by Hank Jr., Tritt, Krauss, Shooter and Waylon himself on the show-closer, the project as a whole just doesn't work. What I ended up doing was transferring the few good cuts on my computer, creating a short-version CD, and taking my size 13s and stomping the original to bits. Some of these cuts are sacrilege to the Waylonized Sound. A tribute? For messing up the Sound, I'm left wanting to place my boots in several anatomical crevices. The final verdict: A tragically failed reality.
