[.ca] Get Out Alive Last Type Story

title of review:
This music is unspeakably brilliant and immediatley loveable. Light breezy catchy melodic indie-rock pop, reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr, Juliana Hatfield and Buffalo Tom, but with a bit of Minus The Bear thrown in. I haven't instantly loved a record so much since I heard Sonny Sixkiller. This is just unquestionably excellent music. Simple and catchy enough to be instantly accessable, but with enough depth and substance to not be throwaway pop. I don't know if Damon Che is still in this band. Apparently he was for the first album, which came out way back in 1995. I don't like that album much, but this new one I love. I hear a bit of Castor, Hum, Yo La Tengo, and Archers Of Loaf in it as well. This music represents everything I love about indie rock. This is pure guitar genius perfection. As soon as I finished listening to these songs the first time I just had to go back and listen to them all again right away. I can't even remember that last time I did that. Usually the first time I hear a band it's just like yeah they're kinda good, I'll give them another listen tomorrow and see if they grow on me, but this was just instant. Love at first listen. Pure unpretentious melodic indie rock done the way it was always meant to be done. Thank you Speaking Canaries for showing this indie rock world infested with boring rock n roll, ugly abrasive post-punk, and tiring post-rock experimentalism the way real music is done. Note: I wrote this review having only heard three songs, Menopause Diaries, Last Side Of Town Part 2, and Coffin Jitters. I've since heard the rest of the album and found that none of the other songs measure up to my initial impression. I've tried multiple times to edit this review down to a single line, since there is no delete option, but the folks at amazon don't seem to let those edits through. So hopefully this will work, if it's the best I can do.
