[.ca] Alter

Floater Evolves Further:
Floater returns and returns with a vengence with Alter, the band's fifth studio effort. This album shows Floater's devotion to musical progression, rather than the stagnation of a group like Metallica who (don't get me wrong- I dig Metallica) have not written an origianl note in a decade. Not Floater- no way! On this album you'll find influences such as country/honky-tonk in songs like Crusatyr or Hollywood, a power ballad in Safety, something more funky with Come See Everything, some straight rockers with Luddite and Long Gone, or even something a little more dreamy (think a vague Radiohead influence) with 4 Down (A Toast). The album tells stories of change. I believe that it is a story of one man's changes, but others think that there are many characters rather than just one. Bassit/vocalist Rob Wynia flexes his lyrical muscle yet again with this album, thus proving that he is (however in the limelight) at the absolute top of his trade. Dave Amador's guitar is, yet again, inventive and never repetetive. He is truly one of the only guitarists who understands the word 'accompanyment'. Pete Cornett is always cool- with his own unique style on the drums. If you have ever found yourself enjoying Floater (and really, if you hadn't why would you be here- what with as obscure as they are?), this album is a certain must own for you. The band continues to grow in new and exciting directions, and this album is a wonderful example of that. See you at a show (Brickworks- here I come)!
