[.ca] Radio Blackout

T.Raumschmiere Rocks:
I've seen him live two times and it blew my mind. Literally. I could not think of anything else except that I instructed my body to move to the noise. It is almost meditative (insofar as noise-meditation could exist). After an hour of his music, you are so full of energy that you can bounce around all night. The music itself is a strange combination of techno, rock and noise. At one point he even creates a 'dancehall'-riddim with heavy guitarriffs, one of the many things I have not heared anywhere else in any kind of music.Better than sex

2003's Most Inventive Album:
For years, people have been complaining that there's nothing interesting in the music world (or, at least I have). While the cascade of garage rockers, turntablists, underground rappers and the like have produced some solid material, there wasn't anything they've done that really seemed original. Then along comes Marco Haas (A.K.A. "T. Raumschmiere") and everything changes. "Radio Blackout" is one of the most inventive albums of the past several years, being a potent, energetic and very catchy brand of experimental techno. There's the brooding and chugging of the first single, "Monstertruckdriver" and it's "sequel", "The Game Is Not Over" featuring Miss Kittin. "Wir Kinder Vom Bahnof" could prove to be Haas' breakout single should he release it: it's the most accessible tune here, being very similar to Mr. Oizo's "Flat Beat", while the title track evokes memories of Sigur Ros, being a spacey, dreary track with digitized screams, vividly suggesting that the radio has actually gone out. There's really only one minor complaint here, and that's "Questromzerspaner", which should have been longer. However, "Radio Blackout" is a treat- a lively, intricate album full of surprises and one that's also pretty catchy too. Easy to get into, but hard to escape. -DG
