From Amazon.com: Prudence--the round-cheeked, pony-tailed heroine of Alona Frankel's book of the same name--can provide further inspiration to young daughters with her video adventure. As with her print counterpart, the animated Prudence wonders if her grandmother's gift could be a birdbath or a flowerpot before she settles down to the business at hand. Unlike the book, Prudence gets a grand introduction in the form of a music video of "The Potty Song," complete with toddlers frolicking among portable potties. A lyric sheet is included and moms will appreciate the equality mindedness of songwriter Art Frankel ("Wee-wee goes there / Poo-poo goes there / Then Daddy wipes behind me and that is that!"). The second half of this 24-minute video is a "Parent's Guide," in which a prominent pediatrician goes over the basics: signs of readiness, terms, methods, and expected ages (for example, girls usually train before boys, but don't force it). --Kimberly Heinrichs
This video is the best!: My daughter watches this movie over and over! She sings and talks along with the movie! This has helped with her potty training! She loves Prudence and wants to do exactly what she does. I think you need to have a positive attitude and have fun with the potty training. My daughter also puts her potty on her head and asks if it is a hat, then shakes her head and says no it isn't a hat, just like the movie. I have no problem with this since her potty is clean. I think this movie is very helpful!
It's a potty disaster; right there on your living room couch: My niece watched this movie, and went and hid under the covers. I think they just made the big potty seem way too scary. This isn't a potty training video, it is more like an anti-potty training video. This will scare your children so much, that they will go potty right there on the spot!!! Just say no to this movie.
Doesn't teach: I needed some help teaching my 2 1/2 year old to use the potty, so I got this video. It didn't help at all - the kids on there are BABIES who sit on the potty with their diaper on. This is all my daughter wanted to do after watching the video. There is one part where "Prudence" puts the potty on her head, which my daughter also wanted to do. It'd be more helpful it if taught kids of the right age how to pull their pants down, sit on the potty, then afterwards WASH THEIR HANDS. No mention of toilet paper at all, either. This was a complete waste of money and time for us.
VERY HELPFUL!: I used the "for him" video with my son who is now 7 1/2 yrs old and the "for her" video with my daughter who is now 5 1/2 and now I'm purchasing it for my 2 year old. The books are good to reinforce as well. It's such a cute video and tasteful.
Daughter likes it but I sure don't: This video is only 13 minutes from the start to the end of the children's part. That 13 minutes includes a lengthy musical introduction, the story, The Potty Song (which is amazingly catchy and amazingly annoying--stuck in my head for a whole week--I woke from SLEEP singing it!), and then the end credits, which are quite lengthy, and in which the babies from the Potty Song are pictured and named. The copyright is in 1990, but I am positive the video was made much earlier than that. The animation is cheap and very old styled. The font used in the end credits is PAC-MAN! which to me, puts it back around '83. I bought this video solely based on the opinions of other Amazon-ers, but would buy something newer, something longer, something more detailed than this if I had it to do over. My daugher likes it, but I'm sure she'd have liked a newer one as well, and might have learned more (how to pull down pants, etc.) had we gotten another video. Plus I wouldn't have this annoying song going through my head!
