From Amazon.com: Admit it: you never thought you'd be buying a video with the word potty in the title. But it's been months, and while Junior seems to love his potty, he doesn't actually do anything in it. So you need some inspiration. Well, you've found it. This video expands upon the popular children's book by the same name in two ways: there's a sing-along potty song and a 13-minute doctor's statement for parents. The director of child psychiatry at a prominent New York hospital will calmly reassure you that it's perfectly normal for Junior to be taking his sweet time letting go of the diapers, and that's worth a lot. And the animated retelling of Joshua's potty progress is good, too. But it's the "music video" of the oh-so-catchy "Potty Song" that makes this half-hour tape. And just in case you aren't already singing the song in line at the bank or the grocery store, the thoughtful producers have included a lyric sheet for you. "Yes, I'm going to my potty, potty / Now, I'm going to my potty, potty...." --Kimberly Heinrichs
Very short and not entertaining, but gets the point across: I borrowed this video from the library and am glad I did. The actual section for the kids was very short and simple. They go through the basics. The animation is kind of cardboard-like, so don't expect this video to be entertaining or have a storyline. I didn't bother watching the parent's section. However the video must have worked because my son started insisting on the toilet.
Rented it for my first son, buying it for the next 2: My older son is almost 5 and we STILL remember the potty song! This video was THE final puzzle piece to potty training for us. Right after Joshua used the potty successfully in the video, my son ran over to the potty (with the video still on) and did it too. My twin boys are almost 2 and I'm ordering the DVD for them. I'm hopeful for the same success this time around.
Not Worth It: I purchased this after hearing both positive and negative things about the video. The video itself is short. Yes, it tells the same story as in the book, but not much more. After the very short potty film their is a pretty useless montage of babies and the potty song. Afterwards, commentary for the parents. It is not useful for young children if you ask me. Once my kids got into the movie itself it was over and I had to rewind--but not too far because the movie itself is so short. The book is better. Some parents have had success with this video. I didn't, but it is short and to the point so some kids might get it.
Loved It!: My 3 yr old and 2 yr old love to mimic the kids in this movie. My Boys watch this movie while sitting on the potty. both are now potty trained! It's a wondreful video.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY: I didn't this video was great at all. The songs are okay. They can be better. And the visual is terrible. First of all, the potties that are portrayed in this video are not all something that a 2 year old would grasp as looking anything remotely close to a toilet. It's very confusing. This video also refers to the different ways that you use the toilet in only one certain way. This makes it difficult for a child of a certain background to understand exactly what the video is trying to teach. ex. Not everyone will call #2 poopoo or poo. I think this video needs a lot of work. And it is way too short!
