[.ca] Systems/Layers

Like a breeze of cold air from the sea:
I was a little bit worried that I wouldn't like this album so I put off buying it for a long time. Now that I finally did, i cant stop listening to it! Rachel's never fail to amaze me and I'm always left totally floored. They are probably one of the most talented, innovative groups to date. Honestly, there is not another band like them! This album has some resemblence to The Sea And The Bells (incredible album), but it's still very different from the stuff they've done before. It's much more ambient. My favorite song is "Water From The Same Source"...it almost drives me to tears everytime I hear it. That's how beautiful it is.

Holy crap.....blown away? absolutely:
ok. so i had heard rachel's around here and there, but never a full album or any thing. my friend downloaded the song "Last Things Last" and i freaked out. it was so good! so i ordered systems/layers. i got it today and it is amazing heart felt, meticulous string arangements, but it all feels so abtract. definitely rocking my world. with all of the ambient noise and field recordings it reminds me of a more melodic SET FIRE TO FLAMES. but it is really hard to compare this record to anything else...ever...EVER!

interesting and varied:
I'm becoming a big Rachel's fan. I heard "Last things last", which is hosted on Epitonic, and then came here to pick up the album. Be warned that the generally tonal and vocal-piano LTL track is not representative of the rest of the album! It's incredibly varied: there are some really interesting electronic experiments (nothing too out there), some jazz-like percussion work, -- it's just an amazing, taste-expanding album.

Rachel's is great music to make out with your lover to!:
Rob Flexon: Have you heard the new Rachel's, Systems/Layers? Mitch: No. It is good? Rob Flexon: Oh, I've got to tell you, I love this album. It has passion and a plucky spirit. And, the musicians have integrity! like when Rachel went on that strict diet of human flesh, she had to cut out chicken and fish completely! *flicks hand around in a feminine manner* Just Jack: OH MY GOD, Rob, I TOTALLY agree with you! I'll go a step further; sure Rachel, she wore a mask made out of human skin, and he hung people on meat-hooks, but hey, we've all got quirks, I got 'em, you've got 'em Rob, that's what makes this album so, so compelling. Thumbs up for me. Rob Flexon: Same here. Just Jack: To sum it up, I'm Jack . . . Rob Flexon: I'm Rob. Rob And Jack: We'll see you . . . At the CD Store! YAY! *akward high-five, BIG long hug, and 2 kisses on the cheek*

Another great post-rock act!:
I just heard (for a few times, actually) Rachel's 'Systems/Layers' and it is another one of those nifty findings, just in time for the weekend! Somewhat in the same league as Do Make Say Think and Godspeed You Black Emperor, this Louisville-based post-rock act has defied to be labeled as such since 1991. They are adventurous enough to flirt with orchestral arrangements in ways that I haven't heard before, that result pleasing while still being highly experimental and minimalist in nature. I am definitely going back to hear more of their discography after this. I leave it as an opened gift for you to enjoy: hope you don't mind! ;)
