[.ca] Bread & Barrels Of Water

outlandish - i am fifty and love it!:
i bought this while traveling in germany last summer, and heard aicha on the radio many times and knew i wanted to buy the cd. at that time this was number three on the charts. when i first heard the other songs, i wasn't too sure. but now, i wouldn't want to be without this cd. my 27 yr old niece has a copy and loves it!

amazing:
i have a very short review for all of you.....AMAZING ALBUM!! i never heard better catchy hip hop tunes, EVER. take my word guys and listen to alllll the songs!

Buy It!:
This album is one of a kind. The Denmark trio's style is much different from mainstream rap. It's a blend of different styles of music from each of their cultural backgrounds. It's off the hook. A must have.

Barrels of Talent:
I first heard "Walaou," the fourth cut on this cd -"Bread and Barrels of Water," - on Indian MTV. It was a knock-out, and for the first time ever I purchased a cd based on a music video. In fact, this is my first hip-hop purchase. The disc has been out for five months, but must have just hit southern India. The first store I went to was sold out, the second was out of shelf copies and dug into inventory to find it for me. It must be a hit over here. These three guys really do have a barrel of talent. They perform in four languages (though I can't tell the difference between Urdu and Arabic,) and the music crosses the languages, with a hip-hop beat, and even a few children's voices. Content runs from love songs to political commentary, and though I haven't listened closely enough seems to avoid the misogyny, and race-baiting of rap. I have to admit I'm not schooled enough in hip-hop to know if it normally conforms to the hate-music conventions of rap, I hope it doesn't. "Bread and Barrels of Water," definitely doesn't. This cd is a great energy charge, as well as being melodic and thoughtful.

A standing ovation for Outlandish:
I first heard the song "Aicha" on a Sky Music channel and I was totally captivated by it. What an intelligent, beautiful and haunting song, I couldn't believe my ears and eyes as I watched and listened for the few minutes it flashed across my TV screen. I had to find out more about this group "Outlandish" and I went straight online and began to dig around. Most of the internet hits took me to Danish sites of course but I found a few English ones that I could browse through and get more information about the song and its singers. Of course I was delighted that the group had an Album out and I purchased it immediately. I was a bit worried I might not like any of the other songs but I needn't have worried. They were all as intelligent and as well sung as "Aicha" was. I was also amazed about the group's three young singers who come from such diversely different backgrounds. How were they able to come together and create such amazing lyrics and music? Perhaps it was their common experience of being strangers in a strange land? "Aicha" is a song/rap about a Muslim girl looking after her family and the life she leads in exile. Perhaps this is a song that goes to the heart of the group itself which is made of up of refugees/asylum seekers? All the lyrics to all the songs are intelligent and heartfelt and I have only ever heard intelligent rap from people like "Miss Dynamite", Coolio with his song "Gangsta's Paradise" and on occasions the brutally honest Eminem. This Album certainly deserves to be a bestseller. This is an absolute must for any rap/soul/world music lover who wants something that is a little different but totally addictive.
