From Amazon.com: Clean white sand and a cool predawn sky are the backdrops for this stunningly produced video, complete with an upbeat New Age soundtrack. Don't be put off by the MTV-like camera work, as this video constitutes an excellent, well-balanced workout. Ali MacGraw and a supporting cast of something-for-everyone models work through this 50-minute routine, overseen by yoga master Erich Schiffman. The first minutes focus on ujjayi breathing, then MacGraw leads us through a complete practice of shoulder stretches, sun salutations, back bends and twists, and standing poses. No equipment is required, but a sticky mat is recommended. Unlike other videos targeted for beginners, Yoga Mind & Body does not offer modifications for difficult poses and so is best suited for practitioners with some previous experience. --Jhana Bach
Not good unless you are very advanced: I did not like this DVD at all and more annoyingly, since I bought it online and it's opened I cannot return it. It is extremely advanced and doesn't offer alternatives to those who are not as flexible. Also they switch subjects on the camera a lot so when you are trying to follow what they are doing they switch it to another scene. Hard to follow and not relaxing at all.
Good, but strenuous for the beginner: I've taken beginner yoga classes for the past few years, and I found some of the poses to be quite advanced. Also, I wasn't too crazy about the background music or cinematics -- I was quite distracted by the continuous loud beating of drums, the chanting, and the camera techniques. The DVD explains breathing techniques and demonstrates a wide variety of poses: balance poses, back and leg stretches, Sun Salutations, and sitting poses. It covers a lot, and explains things clearly, but it was a little strenuous for me as a beginner.
Wonderful yoga: This video is great. I've done it nearly every morning for almost 6 years, and it keeps me fit. Also, continues to challenge.
My Favorite: I originally had the VHS tape and liked this so well that I eventually got the DVD as well.(The tape was showing signs of wear) I love the music and photography, and I like the pace of this workout. I've tried others, but I always come back to this one. It was a bit of a challenge in the beginning, but it's easy to follow and user friendly for beginners. Still my fave after 10 years.
Best Yoga Video: I've been doing Yoga for fifteen years now and this is a standard in my practice that I go back to time and time again. Gentle, yet challenging, this workout is timeless. You'll work out your mind as you center your spirit. My favorite amongst all my videos and one that I never tire of using.
