Flawless, absolutly flawless: First of all, this cd kicks majorly! Some don't think the sound is good, and I'll give 'em that one. But, its still one of the best dang live recordings out there. No one matches the rage and energy as Rage does. It was absolutlye beuatifull. The only two beafs to this wunderfull cd is that whoever mixed needs to have thier head rearagened. I hope the band had nothin' to do with this, for one reaseon.(two really) One is where the hell is "How I could just kill a man?" That song was wild! B-Real and Sen Dog actually came out and preformed it with them! It was dope yall. The other only problem I could'nt ignore was that they copletly took out Zack's rantings! I mean what the heck man?!?!?!? I wanna hear him discuss these things. You can hear and see 'em on the dvd though, but still. Other than that, it was a great cd full of energy and an overall great preformence Peace
one last glimps...: I truley belive rages best days where ahead of them befor zack unexpectedly called it quits. This album is rages last two performances ever, and boy it is a killer. They defenetly went out with a bang and even tho I love this record, It sucks knowing this is the last thing to ever be realesd by the greatest band of the 90s.
Rediscovering Rage: When Rage Against The Machine disbanded in 2000, they left behind a mere four studio albums and a massive fanbase that was thirsty for more material. Well, luckily for us, their last two concerts were recorded and edited into one disc for all of us fans to feast on. Recorded on September 12 & 13 of 2000 in Los Angeles, CA, 'Live At The Grand Olympic Auditorium' is a snapshot of Rage in their best form: performing live. Although I never got to see them live (they barely toured to begin with), this disc serves as the next best thing. All of the intensity and integrity of Rage's music translates well onto this disc. The collection almost serves as a "Best Of..." compilation as well, as all the classic cuts are here, along with a few covers & rarities. It's hard to imagine any fans being displeased with the package. The standout performances to me would be the powerhouse opener "Bulls On Parade," "Calm Like A Bomb" (come on, we were itching for a live version of this), "Know Your Enemy," "No Shelter," "Guerrilla Radio," "Freedom," and "Born Of A Broken Man." The disc as a whole is superb; as odd as it is, I think this is their second best recording (their self-titled being their best), which is just a testament to how well they hold up live and how their music stands the test of time. One of those bands that you never really fully appreciate until they are gone.
RATM Fan Essential: I'm gonna have to qualify this review as best as I can. I am a Rage fan, have been since "No Shelter" was on the Godzilla Soundtrack, sadly, but a fan nonetheless was I since 1998, two years before this was recorded and five before its release. I'm also a huge Portishead, Woodstock, and classic rock fan but as much as I like Live At Roseland, Kick Out The Jams, and all the great moments that occurred during the three days of peace, love, and music in 1969, among the hundreds of other well made live recordings, I have a new favourite. My moment of realization occurred as soon as the bass kicked in on 'Born Of A Broken Man' where a noise erupts that could tear a fly in half, in the same vein as Michael Ivins' bass-tardization in the Flaming Lips' "A Spoonful Weighs A Ton" but way nastier. The whole album is superbly produced by Rick Rubin who creates a rich, full sound that mushrooms between your headphones. Also, each track sounds just a little more urgent than their already screaming studio work, more pressing and still quite relevant. There's also an excellent reworking of EPMD's "I'm Housin'" and a cover of MC5 which works to further reinforce this disk's place rightly in the live album cannon. Absorbing this disk one truly realizes what a loss Rage was in a world with a desperate need for a social conscience.
KICK ASS: This i The greatest RATM album ever I wished the included that wake up song but its still a great live album. Its cool when he changed one of the lines a bit instead of ""some of those that were armed forces, are the same that burned crosses" is changed to "some of those that burned crosses, are the same that hold office" isn't that around the time Bush got elected". I wish I was there to see them live. Any body heard about Zack dela Rocha releasing a solo album I need to know or "I'll put a bullet in your F***king head"
