[.ca] Poetry & Airplanes

Thanks Amazon.ca for the recommendation!:
I bought Damien Rice's O (another great album) on amazon and they told me that if I bought Damien Rice, I might also enjoy Teitur - I bought it with expectations that, once I listened to the CD, were vastly exceeded. Teitur's CD is gorgeous acoustic guitar mixed with clever, moving poetic lyrics and a soft, rich singing voice. It's a simple fact that if you're into acoustic and folk music, then you have to own 'Poetry and Aeroplanes'. No acoustic/folk fan should be without it. It's romantic, it's delicate, it's melodic... it's Teitur, and you won't be disappointed.

Simply Amazing:
Finally an album and an artist worth listening. What an amazing first album. I listen to Poetry & Aeroplanes non-stop. I highly recomend looking him up on VH1.com and watching the videos of his studio performances. Simply Amazing.

I am in love with the new Teitur CD:
This CD is phenomenal. If I could reccomend one CD this year, Poetry and Airplanes would be it. I love all of the traveling metaphors and true poetry which runs deep inside the beautiful melodies and guitar work. Bravo Teitur! I had heard josephine in a Holister store in passing, and so I tracked down the CD - and bought it blindly. And I am so impressed. It's quickly becoming my favorite CD.

Fantastic...:
Teitur Lassen's "Poetry & Aeroplanes" is quite possibly one of the best new Acoustic/Folk CD's around. Full of soft melodies and beautiful lyrics, this album is a must-have. All the songs possess a bittersweet quality that remains throughout the album. Lassen sings with a certain wistfulnnes that is very endearing. Simply brilliant, with standouts like "To Meet You" and "Let's Go Dancing".

"Poetry" doesn't quite fly:
Sometimes you come across a sound that has all the elements it needs for really good music... but they just don't mesh. Singing-songwriting newcomer Teitur makes a pretty but somehow unfulfilling debut in "Poetry & Aeroplanes," with his sad little songs, pleasant voice and unexciting music. He makes a pretty good start with the pleasantly poignant "Sleeping With The Lights On." Then he follows up with the downtempo ballads "I Was Just Thinking," lackluster "Josephine," and mildly clingy "One and Only," as well as the pleasant little pop numbers like the seaside ode "You're The Ocean" and folky-rock "Rough Around the Edges." Ever eat a meal that tasted wonderful, but left your stomach still feeling unsatisfied? That's the feeling that comes with listening to "Poetry." The songs don't all sound alike, but they're all definitely cut from the same cloth. All sad, all introspective, all acoustic, and after awhile it all sounds kind of bland. Teitur certainly has a lovely voice, very smooth and thoughtful. His one flaw is a tendency to go a little high when he holds notes. Though there are several instruments -- organ, bass, drums and piano -- backing him up, the guitar riffs are what dominate the music. Musically, it's nothing special -- it lacks hooks, memorable riffs, or other things to make the music stand out and stick in your head. His songwriting is certainly polished and accomplished, without the awkwardness that a lot of singer-songwriters are burdened with. And the sentiments he writes about are sweet, stuff like "Waiting is nice/I can think of her eyes." But he needs some lyrical variation -- how many times can he tell us that he misses his girlfriend before we want him to stop whining? "Poetry & Aeroplanes" is above many debut albums, but Teitur needs to polish up his sound and songwriting before he gives it another shot. Pretty, but ultimately empty.
