[.ca] Bon Jovi - This Left Feels Right: Live (Limited Edition)

You give Bon Jovi a bad name:
How disappointing... Just finished watching the DVD. Bon Jovi was one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager. On this DVD, I could BARELY recognize the songs I sang when I was a kid. Boy, what did they do to the songs?! The interpret them all as jazz/acoustic/folk versions, and, trust me, I love jazz and folk and these are not good jazz/folk interpretations. I still love the band but I completely dislike what they did to their hits. I wish I had not bought it in the first place. I will probably look at some other concert DVD from them, that will stick to the original version and sell this crap or use it as a cup holder.

Not the Bon Jovi I remember:
If you are looking for a greatest hits CD so you can rock out to the songs that you loved as a teen, then this is NOT the CD for you. Somehow I missed that they had rerecorded all the songs. I don't think you should try to recreate a classic--especially if you are band that made it a classic in the first place. I really wish I could send this CD back or sell it in marketplace, clearly others feel the same way. There are a whole bunch for sale for under $2. If you are really curious buy one of those. I'm just bumming. I was ready for the music to "take me back" it certainly doesn't do that for me. I should have read more reviews!

No-no:
No-No. Big No-No Living On A Prayer = O.K. You Give Love A Bad Name = No-No Big No-No

Better than the CD by far!:
As someone who thought the CD was horrible, yet had seen them do a one hour accoustic set last summer in Minneapolis that was fantastic, I approached this DVD with some trepidation. I ended up enjoying it very much! Most of the songs hold up very well to these reinterpretations, and I think the ballads are much better because they are not so over-the-top. Its a little weird to hear toned-down versions of their anthem-rock hits, but from a purely musical perspective, they did a very good job. Doesn't hurt to have the guys from Southside Johnny helping them out! Overall, if you are expecting the usual Bon Jovi, you will be sorely disappointed. But if you are open to a different style, its very good. They would never have achieved the level of fame they have with this, but its fun.

Ballads?!:
I don't know about you, but to me Bon Jovi's always been a guy that puts a lot of energy into his songs, to the point of forcing you to sing along until you're breathless. If you've enjoyed doing that as much as I have, and love Bon Jovi for being one of the few artists to achieve this successfully, you will be almost disgusted by some of these songs - sure the ladies will go all swooney. OK, maybe that's a bit harsh. I'll be the first to acknowledge that I'm not the Die Hard Fan most of you are, who owns 10 Bon Jovi CD's and calls them "My Favorite", but hear me out. I've always thought it would have been a, well, breathless, experience to witness "Bad Medicine" live, but take that singing-yourself-breathless out of it and what have you got left? Something that, in my mind, should be left to other artists. The ballads never were my favorite, but if they were yours you should prabably ignore this review, and you'll LOVE this DVD (read up on the other reviews that deals with this). I haven't watched the bonus disc yet (there's some stuff that true fans will love), and this surely isn't all there is to say for the DVD, but to me personally it's the most sapient characteristic.
