The instrumentation is crisp and gives a modern feel to all the songs. The vocals take you on a journey through every kind of emotion, leaving you wanting more.Stand out tracks include Phonograph blues, Last fair deal gone down and They're Red Hot.

Incredibly Crafted:
This album is one of the best I heard in a long time. I love it, it has all the elements I look for. It's fun and funky, it's not at all regular, it's sounds fresh even though the songs themselves are from the twenties, the arrangements are so varied. It's like the band or the track just holds down a groove and the singer hovers above, her voice is pristine. Since I bought it I've been listening to it non-stop, especially "Love in Vain" and "Phonograph Blues"!!

Fresh and original cover tunes:
These songs have all been covered to death many times over but Pyeng Threadgill finds something new in each of them. The band is wonderful and gives a different feel to each song. Ms. Threadgill has a beautiful clear voice and it is easy to understand the lyrics; her phrasing makes them relevant (or as relevant as they can be) to the modern listener. I find them captivating. The only drawback is that the styles are all over the map; you don't get much of a feeling that these songs were interpreted by the same musicians at the same session.
