[.ca] Charlie The Lonesome Cougar

From Amazon.com:
Rereleased on video 30 years after its initial release, this classic Disney movie about a motherless cougar looks great, if not quite perfect. Originally filmed in 1967 in the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest, the scenery and wildlife are absolutely spectacular. The story is somewhat formulaic, but entertaining just the same. A forester named Jess adopts an abandoned cougar he names Charlie, nursing him from an eyedropper and enduring many sleepless nights in the process. As Charlie grows, he's a fixture in the local logging community, where mischief abounds and laughs are plentiful. When Charlie enters his teenage years, his natural curiosity and playfulness begin to hinder the logging process, and Jess is forced to release his beloved friend. Highlights include several comic chase scenes between Charlie and a terrier named Chainsaw, an amazing logrolling sequence in which Charlie shows off some fancy footwork, and a toboggan ride that Charlie and his viewers will remember for a long time. All in all, this 75-minute adventure-comedy is perfect for the whole family. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

King Cat:
Charlie the Lonesome Cougar is a story about a man named Jess Bradley who adopts an orphaned cougar cub and names him Good Time Charlie or Charlie for short. Charlie soon becomes the star of the lumber mill where Jess works. Everyone loves him except for the local dog Chainsaw. He gives Charlie fits that'll leave you laughing for a long time. The very idea of a little fox terrier being able to scare a cougar is ridiculous, but Charlie didn't know he was a cougar. When Charlie gets bigger he starts causing a lot of problems at the lumber mill which leads to his banishment. After that he escapes into the wild and actually lives as a wild cougar for a time. He eventually makes his way back to the lumber mill, but by this time he is more wild than tame. I give the DVD 4 instead of 5 stars because in the Wonderful World of Disney version there's a scene not in the DVD that explains how Charlie gets his name. He is pestering Jess and knocking papers off his table onto the floor, and Jess says, "I guess I can't keep saying Hey You all the time, so I'll call you Good Time Charlie." For some reason, this scene is omitted from the VHS and DVD releases of the movie. Also the mono instead of stereo or 5.1 soundtrack, but it's still great.

Great!!!:
This one is fun. Couger Mayhem and Couger Love. My six year old loves this one. It's the kind of movie that is fun to watch on Sunday night with a bowl full of popcorn.

Great Movie:
When I watched this movie when I was young I loved it because I love cats. This movie was great when you just sit back and watch a family comedy movie along with great scenery. I just want people to love this movie with every fun part about it.

Definite winner:
What a treat it was to purchase this VHS for my young children and find such a blast from the past for myself. This wholesome movie brings smiles to the faces of everyone that visits our house (adults and kids alike) and watches it. Light story, good laughs, super narration, beautiful scenery, simple message - animals belong in the wild. The kids watch this one at least once a week, and we've had it almost year. Great buy, money well spent.
