[.ca] Connie And Carla

not worth it:
I have never been so disappointed in a soundtrack before. I just spent good money on the soundtrack from the movie "Connie and Carla" with a total playing time of 27 minutes how absolutely pathetic. I will think long and hard before I spend my money on another Sony Soundtrack in the future!

Useless dialogue:
I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, mainly due to the musical numbers. Arranged simply but performed with loving enthusiasm - I truly enjoyed (as a singer myself) and appreciated the harmonies. I ran to get the soundtrack. In this "we surely can't disclose everything" market you are never sure that what you are reading on the selections list is ALL there is. I read the list but hoped more would be included within the selections itself. I paid the money and out I went. I thought a musical soundtrack should be just that -- music. There was music deleted (CAN'T SAY NO from OKLAHOMA with the entrance of Debbie Reynolds was omitted -- why????). I could have done without the time wasting script dialogue (hackneyed to begin with) in favor of the rest of the score! If you're going to include dialogue regarding Debbie Reynolds, why not her surprise entrance at the end. The "IT'S DEBBIE REYNOLDS!" gasp of the two co-stars would have been more delightful to hear than the dialogue between songs. I feel like I was cheated. There was certainly time left over on this CD to put ALL the music in. Thoughtless and careless of the paying public (as usual). Perhaps rushing the product to the stores WAY before the movie's local release was more important. I expected more of the quality-driven Wilson(Hanks) connection. I hope in the future to see another CD edition with "never-before-released BONUS TRACKS" -- and I know I'll pay the extra money and purchase it again. A Disappointed and Ripped Off Music Lover!!

You'll play it once:
The amazon marketplace tells you all you need to know about the Connie and Carla soundtrack: a recent release, yet the "58 used and new from $2.46" notice as of this writing demonstrates a clear lack of value. The entire soundtrack clocks in at a jawdroppingly shallow 27 minutes 52 seconds. I think my experience with resonate with other buyers: I played the soundtrack once, trying to capture a bit of the spark from an enjoyable *little* movie. But what you find is that any verve came from a combination of the songs with the video. Best example: the 'Evita' moment - a spirited rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - is rendered flat and affectless on CD. Not seeing the audience jump up on cue, Madonna-like, in classic Evita pose succeeds in draining the fun out of the track. What you're left with is dinner show-quality takes of well-worn Broadway tunes...and, not even the whole tunes, just what amounts to a 28 minute medley with some useless interspersed dialogue.

What a Drag! Pun Intended:
This was, hands down, the funniest movie I have seen in a loooong time. My favorite movie of all time is 'Some Like it Hot' and I have heard a lot of people put this movie down as being a 'remake' of 'Some Like it Hot'. It's not. Not even close. Okay, there is a vague resemblance because of the whole mafia killing and dressing up as the opposite sex, but that's where the resemblance ends. As 'girls dressed up as guys dressed up as girls' Connie and Carla are hilarious! Nia Vardalos, Toni Collette and David Duchovney are wonderful, but so is the entire supporting cast. The 'Queens' are wonderful and lovable and you feel like you know them! I haven't laughed this long in a loooong time. It is a fresh, funny movie that will keep you laughing, yet it has heart and a wonderful message of acceptance. See this movie! I can't wait to see it again!

WHat was I thinking buying this mess???:
What was I thinking when I paid out good money for this mess of a dvd? I should have read these reviews first. Those who dislike this cd are completely correct...it is awful. But why then did so many, including me, enjoy the movie and the music in it? Because of the actors, the settings, the script and the over the top costumes ..all that combined with the music made a good on screen presentation, but with only the music (and useless dialogue) on the cd, it is a lost cause...you realize why Connie and Carla never made the big time as it is awful. I will give you an example...in the movie when they sing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" they wear over the top costumes, and at one point the entire audience rises as one, which their arms outstretched over their heads, and looks in their eyes that suggest they are undergoing a religious experience. It is funny. Just the song itself is not funny. The entire cd is like that. I truly miss the twenty bucks I paid for this thing. I amsure the twenty and I could find something else to do together that would be much more rewards. Do recommend the movie though!
