One of the best metalcore albums ever.: After 2 months of listening to this album, I found myself not only completely in love with the amazing musicianship, complexity, and superb sound displayed throughout it, but obessesed with it. This album brings a very solid and warming feel to the listenner. Perfect guitar riffs with the perfect match of technical double bass-driven drum beats, a bass that doesnt just follow the guitar constantly, and a vocalist with a brutal scream who encorparates pinches of emotional talking so often found in metalcore. It may take a little time to adjust to some of the talking parts within the songs, but after a week or so they seem to fit right into the music. This album is has proven to be as or even more influential to me as other masterpieces like Between the Buried and Me's "A Silent Circus", Wings of Scarlet's "Before the Great Collapse", End of All's self titled debut album, Tool's "Lateralus" and Unearths "Strings of Conscience". "Of Malice and a Magnum Heart" is simply a wonderful musical masterpiece, and puts the listenner in a fullfilling and emotional experience.
good stuff: The first few times I listened to this album I didn't like the vocals very much, but the more I listened, I realized that they fit perfectly. I couldn't picture any other vocal style for it. The musicianship is fantastic. The guitarists display a lot of talent. The lyrics are well written, but they are typical metalcore lyrics. Overall a very pleasing debut.
What is this? You tell me?: Misery Signals - Of Malice & The Magnum Heart Purchasing an album out of instinct can be a very good thing, and usually Ferret Music puts out decent bands, and this one falls into that catergory. The album is produced by Devin Townsend, who has produced quite a few very respectable albums, and this band features members of 7 Angels 7 Plauges, which means the metalcore spirit is going to be there. All of the songs are very simliar but not very breakdown heavy, which is something I look for in a "hardcore" band, but nonetheless highly recommended to anyone who likes this style. (7/10) Recommended if you like : 7A7P - Jhazymne's Lullaby or Nora - Dreamers and Deadmen
Shweet.: Awesome disk. well made and well written. there are amazing guitar progessions and awesome tones within the guitars and the bass. when i first listened to the disk i found his scream to sound processed but then i saw them at a show and he sounded exactly the same O_O(eye opening) even the parts where he talks sound the same its sweet. they play extremely well. The music is very aggressive at times and feels like a punch in the face. This disk will be a tough one to top off.
Amazing: this disc is just so good. MS have found perfection in fusing both really brute metal with melodious beauty. from track to track it just feels good listening to it. the music itself is very technical whether its playing with time signatures or just really fast riffs and insane drumming, its all good. lyrically, its heartfelt and full of emotion, you can feel Jesse(vox) really carry out the emotions that are written page to page. Overall, just an amazing disc.. BUY IT.
