[.ca] C'mon C'mon

From Amazon.com:
Sheryl Crow's first studio album in four years shows a woman if not on the verge of a nervous breakdown, then one who has gone a little off the rails and is in the process of pulling herself back on track again. For her past three studio albums, Crow has been known as the quintessential party girl who liked a beer buzz in the morning, but C'mon, C'mon shows her to be much more than that. Breakup, illness, and loss have tempered her good-time persona, and like other life-altering events, both her character and lyrics are stronger for it. This latest offering might not break any new musical ground--again relying on her retooling of '70s country rock--but she displays an honesty and naked vulnerability not witnessed in her earlier work, honing her pain to a fine, lyrical edge. The brooding "Weather Channel" shows a rawboned Crow unafraid to display her emotional bruising, but without losing any of her sly wit: "Just a pill to make me happy / I know it may not fix the hinges, but at least the door has stopped its creaking." Besides songs reflecting her newfound poignancy are a couple of swaggering rockers that recall middle-period Stones, including "You're an Original," featuring Lenny Kravitz, the whimsical and insouciant "Steve McQueen," which finds Crow boasting "I ain't taking shit off of no one," and the deceptively frothy "Soak Up the Sun," which features the long missing-in-action Liz Phair on background vocals. In addition to resurrecting Phair, Crow also has compiled a paparazzo's dream, soliciting the vocal talents of pals Stevie Nicks, Natalie Maines , Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, and inexplicably, the actress Gwyneth Paltrow. --Jaan Uhelszki

Is it just me?:
This is easily my least favorite Sheryl Crow album. "Tuesday Night Music Club" featured a slew of catchy hits that, though sang imperfectly, had a charm and a lot of emotion. "Sheryl Crow" and "The Globe Sessions" followed, and we learned that Sheryl has quite an impressive vocal range, and isn't afraid to play around with different styles of music. Her lyrical ability became more apparent in the process as well. While these second two albums were risky in all the right ways "C'mon C'mon" is predictable and boring. Nearly all the songs have a radio-friendly southern rock sheen, and there are FAR too many guest vocalists (Gwyneth? why?). I didn't want a Sheryl and Friends album. This is not to say that the album has nothing to offer. The innocuous "Steve McQueen" is catchy and decent. "Safe and Sound" sounds like Sheryl has channeled Tori Amos for a moment in time. "Diamond Road" sounds like something from the Beatle's "Sgt. Pepper" days (can't go wrong there). For someone new to Sheryl's work, I suggest purchasing any other of her albums...for those that just want to her the same formula about 10 times, this might work for you.

worst sheryl crow CD of all:
This is the most commercial and hastily produced sheryl crow album I`ve heard. The cheesy title says it all,C`mon C`mon. The fact Sheryl has been given 9 grammys is a sad commentary to the declining musical taste of the american public.

Sheryl Crow's Soothing songs...:
I think she is very talented in playing the guitar and adding her voice makes it great. Her songs lift you up and can relax you also.Since I'm a man I enjoy women singing like her.I like also being able to read the lyrics included in the CD for each song. With her being famous I'd like to be listed as a grateful fan.Hopefully I'll be able to see and hear her at a live concert.I've enjoyed her woman friend's voice and singing for many years(Stevie Nicks).Sheryl Crow has a special blend of music.Rock-n-roll with a country smoothness with a touch of Pop music.I'm very happy I bought this CD...

She keeps getting BETTER!:
Sheryl Crow is an artist that I've liked since her first album. I keep expecting her to lose her groove like some other new female artists (Jewel...0304), but she keeps getting better! When I bought this album I was on a cross-country road trip and NEEDED some new music. I fully expected to be disappointed just because I thought Sheryl would eventually get 'stale'. Amazingly, some 2.5 years later this CD still stands up to any other! She's still got her edge!

C'mon,C'mon,let's rock!:
This album is full of guest artists. That's why it's a bonafide hit. STEVE McQUEEN is an ode to the late Hollywood great. SOAK UP THE SUN with Liz Phair, was the first and biggest hit on this album. One of my favorites is YOU'RE AN ORIGINAL,which features Lenny Kravitz singing background vocals. Stevie Nicks sings background vocals on DIAMOND ROAD and the title track. Don Henley joins Sheryl on IT'S SO EASY(not to be confused with the song recorded by the Everly Brothers and Linda Ronstadt). Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks joins Sheryl on ABILENE. All the other songs are good. I truly love the beginning of STEVE McQUEEN("I went to bed in Memphis,I woke up in Hollywood").
