[.ca] Life Aquatic W/Steve Zissou

one of the best soundtracks ever:
An amazing soundtrack to go with an awesome movie. the david bowie songs redone in portuguese are incredible, so are the score songs. Go buy, kids

Not Since Labyrinth have I heared so much Bowie:
Repeating first my review's title, not since labyrinth have I heared so much bowie. Glam rock seems so at home with the smart humor of this great film. Of course the bowie covers are sung in Portuguise and with but a single guitar but they are stupendous. if I could give this soundtrack a 6 out of 5 stars I would. Great for listening to while cruising in the afternoon, or coming down after a hard day at work. but then you have Iggy Pop... let me just say that if you enjoyed the movie give the soundtrack a chance, Laugh at the jokes in the movie knowing that 90% of the audience doesn't get it and finally remember no soundtrack can be complete without a little bowie!

if you're looking for Seu Jorge:
If you're looking for Seu Jorge, I recommend his Life Aquatic Studio Sessions CD over this soundtrack. It has many more of his tracks. It's also available at Amazon.

good but where's the most memorable track?:
I thought the soundtrack was great, but the most memorable song in the most memorable scene of the movie is not included in the soundtrack. How could they not put the sigur ros song on there?

Did they use a dictaphone to record this?:
Being both a fan of Bowie and many S. American music gendres, after I saw Life Acquatic, I was keen to get out and purchase these great covers by Seu Jorge. The reviews provided here only confirmed my desire to get the CD... Imagine my horror when the Bowie covers turned out to be the worst recordings I have ever heard on ANY CD. I don't know how they did it, but they were great in the movie but sounded like they were recorded on a dictaphone through a shoe-box in the CD. In one, the levels are so wrong, all you hear is the guitar and barely the vocals. Seems to me they are looking to make a quick buck on this one, when what they should have done is re-recorded them in a studio. The only reason I gave this 2 stars (instead of Zero) is that the rest of the music is moderately redeeming... Later, I was talking to a fellow Bowie fan about my most dissapointing CD purchase in the recent memory... turns out he went through the very same thing... Seu - if you are out there, please record these properly... I'm sure you would have some takers...
