[.ca] Real Illusions: Reflections

experimental goodness at its best:
First of all, Steve Vai is probably one of the most evolving guitarists of our times. In an age of talentless skanky (not that i don't like skanky) hags it's inspiring to hear someone with an incredible sense of harmony and music itself.\c Building The Church starts out with a tpping intro where he mutes the strings with his picking hand and taps with his left hand. The song is so melodic and smartly thought putting emphasis on lyrical instead of blazing passages. Dying for your love is set in a eary melodic feeling with ok lyrics. Glorious is an awesome song on its own. K'm-Pee-Du-Wee is basically wat Steve makes his guitar "say". Very legato feel to this beautiful lullaby. Firewall is a funk driven song that starts with a beat box percussion mouth thing, hilarious. Pretty good lyrics. NOw the climax, and my favourite song Freak SHow Excess, Steves result of his enjoyment of Bulgarian Wedding Music. He moves throughout the song focusing on the phrasing while blazing through 7/8 and 7/16 time signatures, WOW!Lotus Feet, made me want to cry, truly a masterpiece and YaiYai, well u have to listen to that one hehehe. Midway Creatures starts oout with a low tuned heavy riff and so does the rest. The 2 last songs are actually pretty good with lyrics. So if u are open to different ideas or just enjoy steves amazing chops and amazing fell for harmony and melodic passages, BUY THIS CD NOW
