From Amazon.com: Early buzz on The Emancipation of Mimi predicted that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"--the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to bestselling female artist of all time status--and mostly it is. But because of the small army of talent involved in its assembly, the album is way more than just a comeback vehicle. For proof, try straight-ahead, look-out-Beyonce-Mimi's-still-got-it "Mine Again," or '70s-soul cuddle-up, "Circles:" a don't-attempt-on-American-Idol love song, or the gospel dazzlers "Fly Like a Bird," and "Stay the Night." But for songs that steer this disc directly into 2005, no looking back, scan the jewel case for the tracks followed by the word "featuring": "To the Floor," with Nelly, bumps along to maximum booty-shaking effect, while Twista spins his natural-disaster-force vocals into "One and Only." Snoop Dogg, Pharrell Williams, and Jermaine Dupri also pitch in; between them and the highwire vocals, Emancipation works the kind of pure-pop magic that sets us all free. --Tammy La Gorce More from Mariah Mariah Carey Emotions Music Box Merry Christmas # 1's Glitter
Talent diminished: Maybe I'm too old for Mariah's "New & improved" AKA, emancipated style, however I feel that the songs she interprets in "Emancipation of Mimi" are an appeal to the lowest common denominator of her incredible voice. I noticed that she was the producer of this album. Possibly this was done in an attempt to free herself from outside control or some dominating influence in her past. Most of the songs are "Hip Hop" I believe. This sort of song is more of a "style of expression" than it is real music. Carey should surround herself with good writers rather than artists burdened with more money than talent. In closing, I hope that Mariah can rid herself of any devils she may still have and quickly bring out another album of lasting musical material that is worthy of her truly heavenly and God given talent.
say what? say somethin': anyway...i enjoyed this cd. i've always enjoyed mariah's voice. favourite track is 'we belong together' and 'fly like a bird' is a great track too, which shows her unbelievable vocal talents. not too sure on some of the musical style of some of the other tracks. haven't quite put a finger down on what i'd call the style. r & b mixed with ??? other favourite tracks are 'it's like that', 'to the floor' and 'get your number'. so glad she came back though. tired of people calling her crazy and everything.
not bad for a comeback: there's no doubt that this is a great comeback for mariah. my favorite tracks are i should be your girl, say something and we belong together.
Great comeback!: This CD has abit of everything and has been in my CD player for a month now. I've never been a huge fan of hers but admire her talent and determination to return to the spotlight. I think this is likely her best CD yet - danceable, hip and cool.
