[.ca] Superbeautifulmonster

Amazon.ca:
The hard rockin', tough talkin' Bif Naked returns with Superbeautifulmonster, a solid stream of catchy tracks made even better by her super-strong vocals. Opening with the primal "Abandonment", her fourth full-length studio release immediately shows that the classic Bif trademarks of deeply personal lyrics sung to a forceful melody are still very much in place. Bif Naked fans tend to fit into two categories: those who like her pop hits ("Daddy's Getting Married," "Spaceman") and the metalheads who like to see her rawk out. Her current CD contains enough diversity to please pop and R & B audiences, however fans of her harder music will be especially pleased with the guitar-driven rock. The disc's first single, the Sum 41-esque "Let Down" is a whimsical tale of a perpetual family failure, while the contemplative "Everyday" is a story of gratitude destined to be a lighter-in-the-air hit at her live show. The only cover tune on the disc proves to be a great surpise: the Metallica classic "Nothing Else Matters" which Bif handles with grace and strength. Before Gwen Stefani became a household name, before Amy Lee showcased her powerhouse lungs, Bif Naked proved unequivocally that alterna-rock women can tackle tough subjects bravely. She's dealt with everything from rape to abortion to abuse--all set to great, harder-edged music. Superbeautifulmonster proves that she hasn't lost her touch, only gained experience and momentum. --Denise Sheppard

Bif Rox:
She's done it again...succeeded to rock all the way through the disc. All without cloning any of her songs on previous albums. All tunes have a different sound but with Bif's unique vocals. She covers Metallica's Nothing Else Matters. Personally I think she could have left it off the disc..not because she didn't sing it well...but because this disc doesn't need it.Her own tunes stand strong enough on their own here.Thank-you Bif for keeping us rockin' and sane with this stellar work of creative vocals and continued outstanding song writing.

She just keeps them coming:
Anyone who has ever purchased a Bif Naked CD and liked it would do well to make sure they have this one in their collection, as well. This CD is filled with music that is just as honest as anything she's put out so far. She pulls no punches. Whether it complaining about an ex, lamenting her childhood, celebrating the ordinary, or extolling the joys of a healthy indulgeance in the physical act of love, she lets it all out. My favorite songs on this CD are Everyday, Funeral of a Good Grrl, and Yeah You. I think Everyday is the most soulful song on this CD. This is one of those CDs that I don't just like a few songs, I like pretty much all of them.

Bif is top quality!:
Bif is a good friend of mine and You shuld definately buy her cd and if u like this cd, then i advise you get Britt Black's CD! Both are amazing!!! Definately the best, Vancouver's finest :)

This CD is not a "Let Down":
Superbeautifulmonster is bif's best album yet, with more mature lyrics and better songs in my opinion. 1. ABANDONMENT: 10/10. This is a very personal song, very catchy and one of the best on the cd. 2. LET DOWN: 9/10. 1st single, This song stars off with a piano and sounds like a vanessa carlton song, but then it gets really rocky and sounds like 100% Bif. 3. EVERYDAY: 10/10. This is one of the slowest songs on the album, but one of the best at that. The lyrics are A+ and the chors is awesome. If I had to pick a favorite this would probably be it. Should be a single for sure. 4. YEAH, YOU: 7/10. The lyrics take a drop on this one, it's pretty catchy but not one of my favorites. I like the more serious songs on the album. 5. THAT'S LIFE: 9/10. This is the most pop sounding song on the album, but that's not a bad thing in this case. very catchy and up beat. A happy summer song. 6. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS: 7/10. 2nd single, Good song but nothing major. Her own songs are better. 7. I WANT: 8/10. ALOT like "yeah, you" but better. This one got more of a rocky edge to it and the lyrics are better. 8. FUNERAL OF A GOOD GRRL: 8/10. Sounds like track 4 and 7 with the same meaning. Should be called "do it" 9. HENRY: 8.5/10. This is a softer/slower song, and bif does these songs very good. Not easy to catch on to but it grows the more u listen to it. 10. THE WORLD IS OVER: 8.5/10. This one got a catchy hook, I really like it. 11. THE QUESTION SONG: 7/10. Sarts off really rocky. I don`t really know this song yet but I still like listening to it. 12. LADYBUG WALTZ: 15/10. One of my top 3 favorite songs on the cd. I dunno what it is about this song, it`s just so f**kin' cool! this is definatly my favorite song on the cd, and one of my favorite songs ever! 13. AFTER A WHILE: 9/10. The last song, well the cd starts good and ends good. another one of my favorites. Great job Bif! 8.9/10 over all. total cd time: 45:24

Guitar and Lyrics:
Bif Naked's older cd's mostly relied on strong power chords and catchy lyrics. The writing combo of Bif and others on this cd however gives it very strong, guitar driven rock combined with the catchy lyrics Bif has become known for. The combination provides the new cd with a sound richer than the last but equally as catchy and Bif's voice provides raw power to match any guitar. The cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" also is true to the original band while being different enough to be conveyed to Bif's audience effectively.
