Les Anglais de Groove Armada ont donc été sollicités par le label Azuli pour réaliser le cinquième volume de la série Anotherlatenight. Compilation mixée par les plus brillants producteurs de soul électronique (Fila Brazilia, Howie B, Rae & Christian et Zero 7) les artistes y ont carte blanche pour donner un aperçu de leur univers musical, influences et coups de cœurs personnels. Ainsi, la diversité, qu'il est de bon ton de pratiquer sur ces mêmes compilations, n'est pas seulement présente dans les genres mais également dans les époques. Ici, les Groove Armada nous servent, par exemple, quelques madeleines de leur collection comme le "Strawberry Letter" des Brothers Johnson (1971), entre autres vieilleries franchement bienvenues. Amateurs de guitares plutôt funk, ces passionnés de musiques électroniques démarrent pourtant leur set avec une house assez soulful, pour enchaîner avec des morceaux d'une grande variété. Et puis la deep house revient, comme des vagues, tout au long de ce mix en forme de va-et-vient musical, alternance de séquences calmes et de plages plus entraînantes, toujours en nuances. La nuance, voilà ce qui caractérise ce mix, sur lequel l'éclectisme, si cher à notre duo, se fait parfaitement sentir à travers une sélection pointue, chill out, mais jamais ennuyeuse. Entre hip-hop groovy, down-tempo funky, soul de qualité et house jazzy, le contrat "Anotherlatenight" est donc rempli et le niveau de la série est maintenu. Que demande le peuple... ?! --Luc Demont

Different moods on different listenings:
This could almost be called 'Back to Mine' Volume 2 as it does have a very similar feel to Groove Armada's compilation for that series. However, I find this compilation much more diverse and multi layered. On first listening this disc doesn't have the seamless flow of the 'Back to Mine' set and almost seems to take you through many mood swings instead of settling you into a nice groove like many chill sets do. However, on repeated listenings I find this actually to be the strength of the disc as it successfully manages to mix several moods and several styles. The boys own version of 'Fly Me To The Moon' starts the set with the cool lounge style associated with Groove Armada but the disc then gradually assumes a more funk laden style with The Memory by Roy Ayers and Grace Jones' Don't Cry It's Only Rhythm being stand outs. The Shuggie Otis version of Stawberry Letter 23 is amazing and with other artists such as Aretha and Al Green it is almost impossible not to succeed. Overall, a disc that gets better and better with repeated listenings and a disc I find suits many moods whilst still maintaining an overall coherency.
