Microsoft Street & Trips 2006: I am amazed by this GPS locator that you install on your laptop or pocket pc. We've bought the Canada - USA version which comes with this receiver that looks just like a processor but doesn't need a fan and even turns blue when you plug it into the USB port. It's really sweet. I was trying the program at my house first just to know how it worked and while I was moving the receiver with my hand it was telling me the speed I was moving it at. It also recognized in like a second what my position in the world was. I haven't investigated all its features, but some of them are: GPS pane, which tells you what direction you are heading towards, the speed you are going and lets you re calculate your driving directions based on the point you are at if needed. So, in case you got lost, which is so imposssible with this incredible thingy, you can ask the program to trace you a new route based on the point you are in the earth. You don't need a precise location for departure, you do need a destination though, lol, the program DOES NOT read your mind, again, the program DOES NOT read your mind. That's a feature they are working on to include in its 2007 version. Directions pane, which tells you precisely how many mts, kms and what kind of turns you need to make into which direction and on what road. If you tell the program at what time you are leaving for the trip, after how long you take a break and so on it also tells you at what time you will be arriving to destination. I don't know what speed it calculates it based on though, I haven't found that feature yet. Options, it allows you to tell the program how many kms per galon, litre, etc you can make on road and street so it tells you where your stops will be at and it can warn you when your tank reaches a certain level of gas. You can indicate the program if you are leaving with full tank, empty or whatever. You can also tell the program how much the litre is so it calculates how much you spent on gas. Map pane, it shows your position in the map and rotates the map and zooms in and out if needed while you are on the road as it comes closer to the turns you have to make. You can adjust all settings and let it rotate or not and all those options that suit your needs better on the go. Map view, it allows you to switch the map colours and views. There's one really nice option which is night view and it kind of puts the map in black and green so the whole vehicle where you are traveling in doesn't flash like a UFO at night. So the roads become green and they are better for your eyes. This programs also shows you everything you want to see, like banks, gas stations, hotels, restaurants, absolutely everything. You just enable and disable those views whenever you want and they'll appear precisely. I haven't seen the program made one single mistake yet and I have given it plenty of options while driving around with my dad to make it freak out and crash. This program is not something you must have, but it will probably make you forget about any fears of getting lost. You can even set the program to tell you how in advance you want it to inform you of next turns or decision you need to make. It can be adjusted to your own driving way. Microsoft, every day I love you more!
