Amazon.ca Product Description: Xbox 360 sets a new pace for digital entertainment. More than just a cutting-edge game system, Xbox 360 also integrates high-definition video, DVD movie playback, digital music, photos, and online connectivity into one sleek, small tower. About the Xbox 360 Hardware Xbox 360, shown with wireless controller, is a sleek, customizable gaming and entertainment system. Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format. The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, users can choose between the detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash Memory Unit. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library. Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has announced plans for a upcoming video-conferencing camera that will work with the system. Xbox 360 can manage your games, your online friends, and your personal digital library. About Xbox 360 Games and Media Xbox 360 is scheduled to launch with more than 20 launch titles, with several more slated to be released within the following month. Launch titles include Madden NFL 2006, Project Gotham Racing 3, and the long-awaited Perfect Dark Zero. All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library. About Xbox Live A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital goodies for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards. Great console, best of the 3 avaliable: Alright, let me get this straight...unlike most of the people who post reviews on here who DON'T have this product, I have all 3 of the newest generation consoles (PS3, 360 and Wii). I got my Xbox 360 on day 1, got my Wii on day 1, got my Ps3 a couple of months ago...Xbox 360 is by far the best console. It has the best selection and variety of games at this point, and I haven't had a single problem with it...never had to send it in for repairs and it works like a charm. Even my buddies who got the system on day 1 haven't had any issues with their Xbox 360's...i personally think the 33% rate (as mentioned below by the fellow who is obviously basing all his opinions from inetrnet message boards) is exaggerated. Plus, Microsoft offers a 3 year warrenty...$0, all free service. As a matter a fact, I'm actually having to send my Nintendo Wii in this week for repairs and i've heard they charge after 90 days (which isn't fair). In the end, Xbox 360's online may cost $50/year but is totally worth every penny...PS3's online is half decent (only because its for free) but i've had connection issues and voice chat problems with the service, Microsofts online is solid and stable. If you want the best console thats avaliable right now with the best games, get an Xbox 360...The PS3 is definitely a good console, but the variety of games is weak and 95% of the games are coming to Xbox 360 anyway. The Bluray is a nice addition ofcourse, but this is a VIDEOGAME console we're speaking of...not a movie watching/internet surfing device.
price drop: why is everyone selling for such a high price when you can go to the store and get the 360 for $399
Microsoft should get sued for this.: By far the worst console in terms of reliability to ever be released to the unsuspecting public. 33% failure rate so soon in it's lifespan is almost criminal. I just sold my 360 on ebay. Good riddance. I never got the red rings of death but it was only a matter of time. The dvd drive sounded like an apache helicopter ready for take off. That same drive ruined my Gears of War AND my Project Gotham Racing 3 discs. I phoned microsoft tech support, (which is in india) asking why the machine was chewing up discs. They said the machine will do that occaisionally, and that a refund was out of the question. WHY? The last draw came when I started to play Dead Rising and Saint's Row. The console was prefectly ventalated but playing these 2 games would cause constant freeze ups. I had the first Xbox and it was a very good console. The 360 however is a total piece of junk. Buyer Beware. ttp://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?360recal&1
Great console great game library: I must say that I'm completely satisfied with my 360 since my original purchase. The game library is extensive, Xbox live experiences no problems as far as I can see. I love the arcade, lots of little fun games that people love. My mother monopolizes my XBOX to play bejewelled when she's over. I play hold 'em with a few of my buddies every so often. I can't wait for the new stock of games to come out. So far I'm not regretting my purchase. And I have yet to meet someone who owned one say that they regretted their purchase. Although I must say that I only know about 12 people with one, so I'm sure that there's a few people out there who do.
The Next-Gen: I love my Xbox 360, and yeah I suffered the 3 rings issue, and it's getting fixed right now. Microsoft handled that issue great, although it stands to reason that if the 360 wasn't rushed out to get the jump on Nintendo and Sony, then perhaps they wouldn't have these problems, but I guess to win in this business it's who's first and who's got the library, so 360 is doing exactly what PS2 did to the original Xbox, win by just having the much larger library. Asides the hardware problem with the 3 rings, I've never had an issue, not even the disc eating, I guess that's few and far between, and mind you yeah it's a pain to lose a game system, but since the warranty was extended for 3 years, what more can you ask for? I've heard such negativity with the reviews here, but it's a free repair, it's either that you get it fixed for free or get a PS3 or a Wii. PS3 with it's frame-rate issues on Madden 08 and other games, and who knows if it won't have technical issues it's still a new system, as well as having almost no exclusive titles. Then there's the Wii, which is equal to the original Xbox with most games being done in 480p, not all, most, and a gimmicky and sometimes problematic controller that many developers have trouble programming for. Xbox 360 as a gaming platform, and as an entertainment centre with the HD DVD player is tops in my book. So far Microsoft has dominated the market, and only recently has Microsoft also become a developer to maintain more exclusive titles, and 2008 should be a very interested year for 360 owners, well it should be a very interesting year for all the game consoles, this console is far from being over, it's a great time to be a gamer, especially with prices going down although a little slow but they're going down none the less.
